Reader to Reader Newsletter December 2019 |

We have had an amazing year! It's been a year full of book and computer donations throughout the United States and around the world. Our terrific staff has been working hard as we expand our direct service literacy programs, and I so greatly admire their dedication, creativity, and all the long hours they are willing to put in.
This year we were honored to have been presented with the Library of Congress State Award in recognition of our work, and it really is an honor that belongs not just to our current staff, but also to all the great people that have left their mark on our organization since our founding.
I humbly ask for your support, either by mail or online, so we can continue this work this coming year. I know the best is yet to come.
I wish you the happiest of holidays!
Best,
David Mazor Founding Executive Director

Laptops For Healthcare Workers in Uganda
More laptops have arrived in Uganda! Here are healthcare workers with some of the 7 laptops Reader to Reader recently donated.
We are pleased to support Step Up Uganda, a small, all-volunteer, nonprofit organization that engages members of the local community who have suffered through 20 years of war with the Lord's Resistance Army to rebuild their community, to heal from the trauma of war and poverty and to develop the capacity of its medical providers to prevent and reduce infant and maternal mortality.
The organization is located in an impoverished region with few resources and many threats to health and well-being, such as malaria, dysentery, dengue fever. The computers are being used by local health workers to access up-to-date health information.

Navajo High School Students Explore College
One of our hard-working Navajo Nation Outreach Coordinators, Martha Hughes, took our Blueprint for Success students at Wingate High School on a trip to Navajo Technical University in Crownpoint, New Mexico.
Pictured above was their visit to the campus radio station to learn about its programs.
This fall, our three coordinators have done a great job taking students from a host of high schools on tours of various universities, and also bringing in college representatives to their high schools.

Donating Bilingual Children's Books
Long after a disaster hits the relief works goes on. That's why over 700 bilingual children's books are on their way to Puerto Rico. This donation is part of our ongoing effort to restore resources destroyed by Hurricane Maria, which struck the island with devastating force in September of 2017.
In addition to our daily work providing books and computers to schools and libraries, Reader to Reader's disaster relief efforts provide resources to schools and libraries damaged by hurricanes, floods, tornadoes, and fires.
