What A Smashing Good Time
Clay Humane served up big fun on Saturday, April 27th at our first Wimbledog Tennis Tournament and Social. The event, held at Pace Island courts and clubhouse, featured a round robin, mixed singles tennis competition with 30 enthusiastic tennis players dressed in their best “Wimbledon Whites” volleying for our cause. Players and VIP guests were treated to a delicious brunch from Nonie’s Catering, a Bloody Mary, mimosa, and wine bar, complimentary massages from Hand & Stone – Fleming Island, a DJ spinning popular favorites, a lively “ball dog”, and, of course, perfect Florida Spring weather!
Thanks to all donors and sponsors who helped make our first Social such a huge success! See photos from the event.

Too Much Of A Cute Thing
Coping With Kitten Season
Kitten season is the time of year when cats give birth, flooding animal shelters and rescue groups across the nation with homeless litters. Kitten season is really three seasons in one, starting in spring, peaking in late spring or early summer, and ending in fall. During this time, too many kittens are born when cats who are not spayed and neutered mate. The easiest way to help reduce the overwhelming numbers of unwanted cats is to  spay and neuter your own cat  and encourage others to do the same.

Sago Palm Warning
Know the signs of Sago Palm toxicity
Every year, Clay Humane handles dozens of cases of pets eating various plants. Dogs are known to chew on and eat plants, and sometimes they unwittingly eat plants that have toxic properties to them. But, lately, one plant has become a growing cause of pet poisoning with five cases presented within the last two months alone: the Sago Palm. What should you know about Sago Palm toxicity?

The Sago Palm (Cycas Revoluta) is a stocky, spike-leaved plant that is often used for landscaping. It is most commonly seen in Southern states, but thanks to increasing availability in gardening and big box stores nationwide, the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (APCC) has seen a spike of more than 200% in Sago Palm toxicity cases nationwide. 50-75% of ingestion cases result in fatalities.
