A BCPS weekend recap:

Looking back at Stuff the Bus and BCPSfest

Stuff the Bus

On Friday afternoon, August 18, at a Stuff the Bus event at the Walmart in Cockeysville/Hunt Valley, hundreds of BCPS supporters turned out to donate enough new school supplies to fill a school bus. Cheerleaders, school mascots, and music from 98Rock added to the festive atmosphere. The event was coordinated by a partnership among WBAL-TV, 98 Rock, WBAL NewsRadio, the Baltimore Orioles, Walmart, and The Education Foundation of BCPS, Inc.

All school supplies collected at the event were transported to the Education Foundation’s two Exchangeree (teacher resource) centers to stock the shelves so that teachers can shop for the supplies their students need now and throughout the school year.

BCPSfest

Saturday morning, August 19, a few thousand community members gathered for the annual BCPS back-to-school festival, BCPSfest. This year's event, held at George Washington Carver Center for Arts and Technology, was bigger and better than ever with information, resources, and family-friendly learning activities from one end to the other.

The crowd was entertained by the Golden Ram Marching Band of Randallstown High School; Deer Park Middle Magnet School "Keeping It A Buck" Step Team; Ms. Blue, Golden Man & The Hurricanes from Colgate Elementary School; and DJ G-MONEY/Three J's Entertainment. Special guests included Poe and two Ravens cheerleaders as well as mascots from Chatsworth School, Franklin Elementary School, Riverview Elementary School, TABCO (the Teachers Association of Baltimore County), and Towson High School.

Summer Stories: Students work with technology office to repair/restore 7,300 laptops

For the sixth year in a row, BCPS students joined forces with the Division of Information Technology's Office of Technology Operations to restore and repair more than 7,300 laptop devices, while also lending their expertise to staffing the help desk responding to customer inquiries.

The student employees eagerly embraced the opportunity to contribute to the technology team’s efforts for a summer refresh. The collaboration, which was aimed at the repair of devices, provided invaluable hands-on experience to the students. Learn more about the project in a new Summer Stories blog post written by Melody Ashburne-Payton, administrative secretary III, Division of Information Technology/Office of Technology Operations.

Have you told us your Summer Stories?

We asked what BCPS students, teachers, and staff are doing this summer, and the responses are flowing in. Have you shared your story idea with us? If not, please write to communications@bcps.org.

Partnering to support our future

A new Mission Moment blog post describes The Education Foundation's role in last month's BCPS Community Partnership Fair and this month's New Educator Orientation.

The Community Partnership Fair

The Second Annual BCPS Partnership Fair was held on July 27 at George Washington Carver Center for Arts and Technology. The event tripled in size from last year with more business and community members attending to learn how they can partner with BCPS to support our students, teachers, schools, and communities.

At the end of the program, The Education Foundation awarded multiple gratitude baskets to several lucky participants.

The New Educator Orientation

The energy was contagious when more than 750 new teachers participated in the 2023 New Teacher Orientation at Perry Hall High School on August 15 and 16.

Over lunch, foundation leaders shared information with new educators about the many ways they can benefit from the foundation's grants, tools, and resources.

Then, the foundation awarded a plethora of baskets, bowls, boxes, and bags filled with supplies and resources to those in attendance. The gifts were made possible by donations from various community business partners.

What's an Exchangeree?

A new BCPS-TV "In the Know" video explains how the Exchangerees (educator resource centers) benefit students and schools across the county.
