Dear Charting Careers Friends and Family,
Even in the midst of difficult times, we are still finding and igniting hope. I want to share a few moments from my work these past few weeks that have given me inspiration and sustained my energy for this critical work:
- A scholar sharing that an opportunity Inecita (our Family Partnership Coordinator) helped arrange has changed their life;
-
Participating on our virtual community-building bingo night (planned and implemented beautifully by our amazing staff) as scholars shared what superpowers they would like to have (super speed was the most popular 😃), and then a few moments later, listening as elementary and middle school scholars were able to interview one of our scholarship recipients about what college is like; and
- Hearing a tutor speak about the joy she is finding in tutoring two scholars who are siblings and the relationship she is building with their mother.
As we reflect on this year, I am so proud of what our Charting Careers community has accomplished together: Hundreds of hours spent tutoring and mentoring with our amazing scholars; numerous desks, computers, and other needed resources donated and delivered; lots of new learning opportunities for our scholars, volunteers, and staff; increased partnership with parents and caregivers resulting in linkages to community resources and family/scholar goals being met; and countless hours of community collaboration to address systemic issues - to name a few!
Thank you for sharing your time, talents, and gifts as we have learned to pivot and adapt. With you by our side, this has been a year of growth and increased impact.
With Gratitude,
Erin

Creating Opportunities for Joy, Exploration, and Connection!
|
|
During this time of increased isolation, we all need new opportunities to explore, learn, and feel joyful. Last week we had a virtual bingo night with scholars, staff, and mentors to build community, have fun, and learn a new strategy to de-stress! Our elementary scholars and their tutors received new sets of books they are reading together on their weekly (if not twice a week) virtual sessions. Our middle and high school students are receiving STEM or art kits, aligned with interest areas they are exploring, to give them something fun to do, while also providing learning opportunities to share with their mentors and our staff.

Join us next Tuesday, December 22, 2020 from 6:45 - 8:00 pm to learn more about how our mentoring community will help you feel connected and give you an additional sense of purpose and joy by becoming part of a young person's journey to their future.
* Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) male mentors and Spanish-speaking mentors are especially needed!*
