All six cadets attending the CAP in-residence Advanced Flight Training Academy in Columbus, Indiana, in July completed their Federal Aviation Administration check rides — earning their private pilot certificates and becoming the 164th-169th cadets to graduate from the U.S. Air Force-funded Cadet Wings program.

We've Always Said Blue Berets are Family ... Sometimes, They Actually Are!
Along with multiple parent/child pairings this year, CAP had two legacy Blue Berets following in the footsteps of their older brothers for this National Cadet Special Activity.
Jake Aytes, National Blue Beret 2016 cadet deputy commander and a five-time attendee, was followed by his younger brother Josh, now a three-time attendee. Saber Mswia came to the activity in 2016 and 2019, while his younger brother, Akhenaten, spent his first summer at the compound.

Did you participate in National Blue Beret?

... But Wait! There's More
#OSH22
National Blue Beret featured a record-number ten Gen. Carl A. Spaatz Award recipients at Oshkosh, evenly split between current and former cadets and spanning from Spaatz No. 616 to No. 2413.
For all you math fans out there, that means roughly 6% of this year's attendees earned an award typically achieved by less than 0.5% of CAP cadets nationwide.

Spaatz Sisters: Massachusetts Siblings
Earn Highest Cadet Honor
The Massachusetts Wing’s latest recipients of CAP's top cadet achievement, the Gen. Carl A. Spaatz Award, have more than that honor in common.
Cadet Cols. Leah and Sarah Vigevani are sisters. The two Bridgewater State University Composite Squadron members received their Spaatz awards Aug. 1 from Brig. Gen. Virginia Gaglio, Massachusetts Air National Guard commander and chief of staff.
Earning the Spaatz is impressive enough, Gaglio said, “but to have two in the same state at the same time is really nothing short of amazing.”

National Geospatial Team Helping Assess Kentucky Flood Impact
More than 50 members from 27 wings as well as an overseas squadron in Japan have been helping electronically assess damage from flash flooding two weeks ago in eastern Kentucky.
They're part of the online National CAP Geospatial Team — senior members and cadets who have completed Federal Emergency Management Agency Damage Assessment Training to analyze geographic information system (GIS) data to support missions as a Total Force partner of the U.S. Air Force.
The response to the disaster in Kentucky is the geospatial team’s eighth mission ...
