What's captured your attention?

Lately, I have been in a season with a lot of hustle and chaos and little free time- running between teaching and children's sports and appointments. I have realized that it is essential to be intentional about what I am doing with my time, particularly to avoid losing countless hours on "doom scrolling" on my phone. It has pushed me to be very mindful.

Mindfulness is the practice of paying attention and knowing where to direct our attention. Mindfulness is being aware in the present moment, compared to mindlessness which is not being conscious of the present.

By not being present we are:

🌱 Wasting the life we are living.

🌱 We're missing out on important information.

🌱 We are missing out on important experiences and opportunities.

🌱 We are not realizing our potential to the fullest.

🌱 We are communicating in a superficial manner.

🌱 We are risking more accidents and incidents.

🌱 We are missed risking more misunderstandings in our relationships.

🌱 We are more likely to be unhappy and more prone to stress and psychological problems.

Mindfulness can:

☀️ Produce an increase in awareness.

☀️ Help us to abandon judgments in consequently stress and anxiety.

☀️ Lead us to a richer, fuller life experience.

☀️ Help us replace in everyday life reactive automatic and destructive behaviors with conscious and functional choices.

Mindfulness can be beneficial as you seek to make changes and transformations in your life.

Does this resonate with you? Let's chat about how shifting behavior patterns can bring about the changes you are seeking.

The Specific Carbohydrate Diet

Last month I highlighted the Anti-Yeast diet and it's benefits for children and adults in healing the body and brain. This month we will look at another eating option- the Specific Carbohydrate diet.

The Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD) which places limits on carbohydrates beyond just gluten free or yeast free. This is an approach used for children who may not have responded to previous forms of dietary intervention.

This diet includes a significant restriction on carbohydrates, as the specific restricted carbs are believed to contribute to inflammation in the gut by aggravating existing bacterial infections.

It eliminates, among other things, disaccharides which are the 2 sugar molecules, as this is the one that is hard for people to digest. These undigested carbs can increase inflammation, increase bacteria growth, trigger the production of excess mucus and lead to leaky gut syndrome.

If you have tried GF/CF, anti-yeast, or anti-hypoglycemic diets and your child still has colitis, or diarrhea, gas, bloating, abdominal pain, and intermittent constipation this may be the needed next step on your child's healing journey.

Food restrictions on the SCD include:

Processed Proteins- Hot Dogs, bologna, spiral ham, breaded fish, canned meat, processed cheese, etc.

Vegetables- All canned vegetables, potatoes, yams, soybeans, and chickpeas.

Grains- Eliminate all grains, including the gluten free ones. This includes corn, oats, rye, quinoa, and tapioca.

Fruits- Canned and sweetened dried fruits, , jams, jellies, and ketchup

Nuts- Eliminate all roasted nuts, especially glazed and salted mixtures.

Beverages- Eliminate ALL forms of milk including plant milks, tea, and soft drinks.

Nutrition can be transformative in the healing process. Nutrition aids in healing the body and brain to promote behavioral change. Don't hesitate to reach out if you are interested in more information on this topic.
