What did PVModuleTech say about auditing modules and the importance of the process of ensuring the quality of your purchase?

Part 2

When purchasing PV modules, the goal should be to obtain modules that are defect-free. In all the presentations, the speakers repeatedly emphasized the importance of auditing your modules. Within the central topic were several practical steps to achieving the goal of defect-free modules.

On the supplier’s side of due diligence, it comes down to visiting the factory several times, learning about their philosophy on manufacturing and methodology, and gaining insight into the manufacturer's commitment to premium-quality results, the performance of the equipment, and the quality of the human touchpoints.

At Unicorn Solar, we use the 4’M method: materials, methods, man, and machine. If you focus on this when watching the production process, you can be confident that you will receive accurate auditing information and ensure your customer receives what they want. The list includes:

  1. Production is carried out per the standard operating procedures (SOP) for tools to monitor equipment SOPs.
  2. Ensure the equipment conditions
  3. Recommended parameters by the equipment supplier
  4. Equipment maintenance
  5. NC handling
  6. NC product isolation
  7. Manpower implementations and their corrections
  8. Training
  9. Training records
  10. Various process parameters
  11. Climate parameters
  12. SOP and its implementations
  13. Record verification and many more
  14. The primary role of a flasher is essential, which includes the calibration process.
  15. Primary module selection and preparation,
  16. Equipment verification of operator, tolerance limits, etc.

Samples and reports – As per the project requirement, the inspection scope needs to be finalized, and the quality assurance program QAP needs confirmation, including sampling plans.

  1. Check items and test items, lot sizing, etc.
  2. As per the agreed plan, sample selection,
  3. Sample sizes must be determined according to the acceptance quality level (AQL) for each inspection and test item.
  4. Acceptance limits to be defined clearly,
  5. The sample pick-up process needs to be defined.

The speakers also focused on contracts. They need to be clear, straightforward, and cover all major points. The terms and relationships that allow the unexpected to be controlled are also important.
