Dear HDS Parents and Students,

We would like to clarify exactly what each student should do each day following their check-in with homeroom/advisory; we apologize for any confusion in this regard.

You will find it very helpful to have a pencil and a pad of paper or planner when you check the portal -- that way you can get it all down and you'll be able to make a plan for your day. This will get easier as we go along!

Grades 4-8
  1. Check-in with homeroom/advisory at 9:00 a.m.

  2. When homeroom/advisory ends, go to each of your teacher's portal pages under the Class Tab, just like you would normally do to get assignments. Be sure to check each of your special area classes, too!
(Parents - you can access the teachers' portal pages by looking at your child's portal.  Follow these steps: My Children > Academics > Click on the individual classes listed for your child.)
  1. For each of your teachers, first look to see if there is an announcement.  Your teachers will tell you if you need to use Google Meet to join a "live class" that day, and the link to join will be there for you to use.
  1. If you are going to have a "live class" via Google Meet, it will happen at the same time your class meets on a normal school day. For instance, my science class meets at 10:05, so if I am going to have a Google Meet session that day for science, I would let my students know in the announcement box that we will have a live class, and they would join the session at 10:05. Please note: the only exception for this is for 1st period classes-- they will meet at 11:45 a.m. for any planned live sessions.
*Live sessions and lessons will be recorded and posted for viewing if a student cannot be online for the live lesson.
  1. Once you know (and have written down a reminder) about any classes you need to join for that day, you are ready to look at the assignments posted for each of your classes and make a plan for your day!
Kindergarten-3rd Grade

  1. When homeroom time ends, go to each of your teacher's portal pages under the Class tab to see your assignments for the day.  Be sure to check each of your special area classes too!

A reminder that all teachers are available for virtual office hours Monday-Thursday from 3:00-4:00 p.m.  Students will use the Google Meet link on the teacher's portal page to talk with the teachers about any questions they have or to gain clarification as needed.
