Metro PD, Casey Trees, Casa Ruby and Refreshments will all be Featured at the February Monthly Meeting!
We are kicking off the new year of monthly meetings on February 3rd with a round of neighborhood updates, opportunities to sign up for DCCA activities, and as always special presentations from featured speakers.

  • In response to your call to address crime and safety issues, we invited the Commanders of the Metropolitan Police Department's 2nd & 3rd Districts who will present a neighborhood update and answer questions.

  • We are also excited to host Casey Trees, an organization focused on restoring, enhancing and protecting the District's tree canopy. Casey Trees will talk about their work, answer questions and provide helpful reminders and tips about tree care in all seasons.

  • Finally, we are pleased to have Casa Ruby, an organization that provides social services to LGBTQ community, join the meeting. Recently awarded one of DCCA's grants to address homelessness in the neighborhood, Casa Ruby will share information about the grant awarded program to direct outreach to homeless LGBTQ youth in Dupont Circle and link them to housing and other services.

The DCCA Monthly Meeting is held on the first Monday of the month at 7:30 PM. Monthly meetings are always free and open to the public and are held at the International Student House 1825 R Street NW.  Bring a friend or neighbor. Only members can vote on resolutions or in elections.
DCCA Submits Comments on Comprehensive Plan
DCCA submitted comments on the section of the comprehensive plan that covers the Near Northwest region of the city, which includes Dupont Circle.

In those comments we emphasized that a revised plan should restore the key takeaways collected from community engagement sessions, as they remain priorities for Dupont Circle. We also recommended more specific and stronger language about affordable housing, pedestrian and bicycle safety, noise abatement in areas with a mixture of residential and entertainment venues, and building design in Dupont Circle.

DCCA's submission to the Office of Planning can be downloaded HERE .

DCCA Members Know How to Party!

Thank you to all who attended the annual DCCA Member Resolutions Party and helped kick off a new year of neighborhood connections.

Members enjoyed the delicious Turkish food and hospitality from Ankara and received updates on what's ahead from DCCA President, Glenn Engelmann.

Laughter and chatter filled the room as neighbors caught up with old friends and met new neighbors. Overheard was plenty of talk about the Ward 2 Council race, planning for the 2020 House Tour, and a hearty appreciation for the neighborhood we choose as home.

In case you missed the sign up sheets to get more involved -- if you are interested in joining the DCCA Board, helping with DCCA regulatory work or to help find homes to feature on this year's House Tour click HERE to send an email and share your interest.

IA&A’s Hechinger Collection Celebrates the Ubiquity of Tools
Hechinger Hardware
IA&A’s Hechinger Collection celebrates the ubiquity of tools in our lives through art that transforms utilitarian objects into works of beauty, surprise and wit.

Until his retirement in 1996, John Hechinger Sr. headed the Hechinger Company, a hardware and building materials chain established by his father in 1911. Hechinger began acquiring works for his collection after displaying screenprints combining tools with images from pop culture—in his office and noticing the positive impact the art had on his employees.

This traveling exhibition is now on view in Annapolis but you can read more about the exhibition by clicking here and learn more about John Hechinger on the IA&A blog.
