It's Money Smart Week!

Did you know that 65% of Hoosiers lack the fundamental level of financial knowledge they need to make careful decisions about their finances? To help increase these skills, we're hosting Money Smart Week kicked off on October 22. The week raises awareness of local financial stability resources and helps people improve their money management skills. Money Smart Week events address important topics for people at any stage of life and financial means. Whether curious about credit scores or ways to stretch budgets further, this week full of events is sure to have something for everyone.

What do you fight for?
Ever wonder why your neighbors and co-workers volunteer their time, energy, and funds to United Way? We’ve caught up with several Campaign Cabinet members, committee members, passionate volunteers, and staff members to learn a little more about what motivates them to fight alongside United Way to create a better community for all.
We’d love to hear from you! Download and print an “I Fight For” sign , snap a selfie, and send it our way . We just may highlight your photo in social media!

Meet Kyle Parker, Tax Hero

Imagine assisting a struggling family as they realize they’re getting enough back on their taxes to ease financial concerns… all because you helped them claim tax credits that might have otherwise been missed.

This is what Kyle Parker, Free Community Tax Service Site Coordinator, and his team of Tax Heroes do every volunteer shift.
Kyle remembers seeing the relief on a single mother's face when she learned she qualified for the Earned Income Tax Credit. "Just being in the room with her, we could feel the relief wash over her as she realized that her refund was going to alleviate so much of the financial pressure and uncertainty she was operating under," said Kyle. "I feel fortunate to have been part of an event that improved a neighbor's life."
The Free Community Tax Service is currently seeking volunteers for the upcoming tax season. Last year, Tax Heroes filed more than 2,800 federal tax returns and brought back more than 2.9 million dollars to our community. Join our Free Community Tax Service volunteer team today. Training is provided, and no experience is needed!
