Support Community Shares At Our Year End

“With Liberty and Justice for All.”

Some of us still believe in those words—not as a reflection of where we are, but as a vision of where e must go.

As Community Shares of Greater Cincinnati closes our 2024–25 fiscal year this Monday, we cannot ignore the painful truth: our nation continues to drift further from the ideals it claims to uphold. In recent months, we’ve witnessed the erosion of long-standing rights, the dehumanization of our neighbors, and policies that treat vulnerable people with less compassion than we offer wild animals.

And yet—we hold on to hope.

Hope that we will reclaim our shared values of equity, inclusion, and justice. Hope that the poem on the Statue of Liberty still means something. Hope that we will stop persecuting immigrants for seeking safety, stop criminalizing the unhoused, stop making life unbearable for LGBTQIA+ communities, and stop embedding racism into the very systems meant to serve us all.

Community Shares exists to turn that hope into action.

As Greater Cincinnati’s federation of social justice, environmental, and animal welfare nonprofits, we support the organizations on the front lines—uplifting marginalized voices, defending basic rights, and building a more just, compassionate future. We are a local force for change, and we need your help to continue this critical work.

Our fiscal year ends Monday. We observe Independence Day next Friday. Will you stand with us?

Your donation today helps us resist injustice, protect the vulnerable, and fight for what’s right—right here in our community.

Together, we can move closer to the promise of liberty and justice for all.

Make your gift now. Thank you.

Green Umbrella Hosts Local Premiere Of 'How To Poison A Planet'

Join Community Shares member organization Green Umbrella for the Cincinnati premiere of the award-winning documentary How to Poison a Planet, a powerful new film featuring actor and activist Mark Ruffalo. This gripping documentary exposes the global crisis of toxic PFAS “forever chemicals” — and the corporate and regulatory failures that allowed them to spread.

The evening begins with a reception (6:30–7:00 PM) featuring drinks and light bites, followed by the screening of the film (7:00–8:30 PM). A post-film discussion (8:30–9:00 PM) will feature renowned environmental attorney and Taft partner Robert Bilott — the real-life inspiration behind Dark Waters — along with local water experts.

About Robert Bilott:

A leading voice in the fight against PFAS pollution, Rob Bilott has spent over three decades holding polluters accountable and advocating for clean water. His legal battle against DuPont is chronicled in the book Exposure, and his work is featured in the films Dark Waters, The Devil We Know, and How to Poison a Planet. Rob is a recipient of the International Right Livelihood Award—also known as the “Alternative Nobel Prize.”
