Director's Corner

February 2022

Betty White and Uggie

Hello Lisa,

Our 2022 call for grant applications opened this week. If you started your application, you may have noticed some changes. Grey Muzzle is committed to racial equity. We are now asking grant applicants to indicate how they proactively promote diversity, equity, and inclusivity within their organization and their work with the community so we can share their strategies and amplify successes. With this in mind, in this edition of the Director's Corner, we are sharing a few resources from our partner organizations in honor of Black History Month.

As always, we'd love to hear from you. Please share your experiences on our Grantee Facebook Group page and feel free to reach out to me if you'd like to be featured in a future Director's Corner. Thanks for all you do to make life better for senior dogs and the people who love them.

Focusing on Underserved Communities

James Jennifer Eans 2shot.jpg

In this Maddie's Candid Conversation, James Evans, founder of Companions and Animals for Reform and Equity (CARE), and Jennifer Evans, CARE's Chief Operating Officer, discuss how their life experiences have shaped their work with and commitment to underserved BIPOC communities throughout the country.

Their insight and perspective are not only thought-provoking but also critical to moving the field of animal welfare forward. Please watch and share with others in your organization.

Although the focus of this article is on business brands, there are important parallels to our work within our own organizations and in the community.

Grantee Webinar: Lessons from the Learning Partnership

Launched in February 2021, the Learning Partnership brought together three grantees -- Asheville Humane Society in North Carolina, NorCal Boxer Rescue in California, and One Tail at a Time in Chicago -- to implement innovative programs to keep senior dogs out of shelters and in their homes.

Join us on Thursday, March 10 at 1 pm ET to hear about strides made, challenges faced, and key takeaways from their groundbreaking programs to prevent the surrender of senior dogs.
