Florida has been keeping us on our toes so far this summer.

Our normal rainy season starts around May, but we have not received as much rain as we usually would throughout these past couple of months.

Even though we have received some storms here and there, the rain has been spotty all around southwest Florida and the temperatures have remained high, so we should expect this drought stress to continue.

We still recommend keeping your watering schedules consistent, or to make sure they take place in the morning and about twice a week with about an inch of water per zone to help combat further drought damage.

This heat can also encourage bugs and other critters to appear around your home! Bugs and rodents will seek shade and moisture wherever they can during these hot months.

Insects do enjoy the heat and humidity that Florida has to offer, but even they can't survive in intense heat.

As soon as temperatures reach above 100 degrees, they will seek cooler places to live. Shaded areas and indoors are an ideal environment for them in this case.

Rodents cannot survive in higher temperatures either, which will cause them to seek cooler shelter. They will make a home wherever it is safe and easy to get to.

They can fit into spaces as small as half an inch, which allows them to squeeze through even the smallest openings around your home.

Mosquitoes are mostly active when the temperatures are around 80 to 90 degrees. They remain active in temperatures above that, but are less likely to bite the higher the temperature gets.

Evenings are the best time for mosquitoes to fly about and get their fill since it is not too hot but still warm and humid. Swarms are typically found around standing water or damp areas.

It is also normal for rain to bring out more bug activity! Insects and other wildlife will seek shelter from the rain so they may end up around any covered areas of your home. If you happen to see a rise in activity, it should die down. If it does not, please let us know.
