Movie Night Success

Movie Night was awesome!! Thank you, Dr. Giesele Greene, for leading our discussion on Sinners. It was a lively and spirited discussion centered on how each ethnic group was strategically interwoven into the past. Our takeaways from the discussion reminded us of the power of evil and the desire for others' gifts from God.

The Season of Lent

Our Lenten journey continues on this 3rd Sunday of Lent 2026, which focuses on repentance, the need for spiritual fruit, and God’s patient mercy, urging believers to turn away from sin and toward God’s transformative grace. Key themes include inner conversion, cleansing the heart, and finding "living water" in Jesus. It marks a shift in Lent toward deep spiritual renewal and baptismal reflection.

As part of Lectionary Year A, the service focuses on themes of faith, trust, and spiritual rebirth through the following key points:

Key points for this Sunday include:

  • The Call to Repentance: The readings emphasize that conversion is not just external, but a change of heart. It is an opportunity to break from sinful habits and repair one's relationship with God.
  • God’s Patient Mercy: Parables, such as the barren fig tree, highlight that God gives us time, care, and second chances to produce "spiritual fruit".
  • Jesus as "Living Water": Centered on the Gospel of the Samaritan woman, this Sunday highlights Jesus as the source of life-giving, spiritual water that quenches the deepest human thirst.
  • Breaking Barriers: Jesus breaks social and religious conventions (e.g., talking to a Samaritan woman) to offer salvation to all, emphasizing that the Gospel is universal.
  • Transition to Second Phase of Lent: The Church often uses this time to shift focus from general penance to a deeper, more direct preparation for Baptismal renewal and Easter.
  • Heart Cleansing: The season calls for cleaning out the "temple of the heart," removing distractions and sins that hinder a closer relationship with God.
