Dr. John Holbert's commentary on Sunday’s gospel text suggests another central Lukan theme: the near-constant debates that Jesus has with the religious leaders of the time. In fact, though we hone in Sunday on the controversy with the Sadducees concerning the levirate marriage laws as they relate to the afterlife, that debate is embedded in a long series of such verbal struggles, encompassing Luke 20:20-21:4. Luke employs this material at this point in his narrative as a way of indicating that the pressures on Jesus are increasing, as he publically confronts his adversaries, resulting in the kind of rage against him that leads straight to his trial and death.
Jesus never shies away from the truth, no matter how difficult the questions are.

Find food and other resources: Call the Help Center at (216) 738-2067 or use the interactive map on the Greater Cleveland Food Bank website to find local pantries, hot meal sites, and other programs.
- Apply for government benefits: The Help Center can assist with over-the-phone applications for SNAP (formerly Food Stamps) and other public benefits.
- Visit the Community Resource Center: Located at 15500 S. Waterloo Rd., this center offers a healthy food market with extended hours and serves as a one-stop shop for resources.
- Access senior-specific programs: The Food Bank is committed to improving access to nutritious food for older adults through dedicated programs.

Advent Season is Coming

Advent is the beginning of the liturgical year in the Episcopal Church, a season of preparation and expectation for the coming of Jesus Christ. It is a four-week period leading up to Christmas that focuses on anticipating both the Nativity of Christ and his eventual Second Coming. The season uses the color purple (or sometimes blue), which symbolizes penitence, hope, and reflection.
- Timing: Advent begins on the fourth Sunday before Christmas and ends on Christmas Eve.
- Meaning: The name "Advent" comes from the Latin word adventus, meaning "coming". It is a time of spiritual preparation, reflection, and anticipation.
- Liturgical colors: The primary color is purple, but blue is also used. Pink or rose is often used for the third Sunday (Gaudete Sunday).
- Themes: The season is associated with the themes of hope, peace, joy, and love.
- Practices: Many churches use an Advent wreath with candles, lighting one each Sunday to represent the themes. Another key practice is preparing for the "coming of Christ" through various means, from personal reflection to setting up Christmas decorations.
- Dual focus: Advent anticipates Christ's coming in three different ways: his birth in Bethlehem, his presence in believers' hearts, and his final "Second Coming" in power and glory.
