Come, Holy Spirit, Fall Fresh on Us!
In the Episcopal Church, Pentecost Sunday (May 24, 2026) marks the descent of the Holy Spirit on the disciples and the birth of the Church. Key points include the liturgical color red (symbolizing the "tongues of fire"), the celebration of sacraments, and the transition into "Ordinary Time"
| | |
Key Points of Pentecost in the Episcopal Church:
-
Date: May 24, 2026.
-
Meaning: Commemorates the Holy Spirit descending upon the apostles, transforming fear into bold proclamation and uniting diverse people. It is considered the birthday of the Christian Church.
-
Liturgical Color: Red is worn by the clergy and used for altar hangings to symbolize the flames of fire. Parishes often encourage the congregation to wear red as well.
-
Sacraments: It is a traditional day for Holy Baptism and the affirming/welcoming of those being Confirmed or Received into the church.
