We invite you to reflect - what does reconciliation mean to you?

September 30th marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a federal statutory holiday established in 2021 to honor those who survived residential schools, those whose lives were lost, and those who continue to experience suffering and trauma.

Also known as Orange Shirt Day, it's a time for Canadians to raise awareness about the history, harm, and legacies of the residential school system by wearing orange.

Visit the library to engage with our display of orange t-shirts, where you're invited to write what reconciliation means to you and hang it up. There are also many books and resources available for you to borrow.

Resources

We have materials for all ages to learn about Indigenous history, including the Indian Residential School experience and the ongoing Truth & Reconciliation process.

Find suggested resources, both from the library and elsewhere, on our website.

Giveaway Books 2024

On Saturday, September 28 and Sunday, September 29, we will be giving visitors to the library copies from a selection of books that address the Residential School experience in Canada.

We will have books for all ages and a combination of fiction and nonfiction, on a first-come first-served basis. The idea behind this free book giveaway is that you will take a book that speaks to you, read it, and pass it along to someone else as a way of supporting learning and growing understanding of Truth & Reconciliation in our community.

We encourage you to come to the library, pick a book, and attend the Squamish Nation's National Day for Truth and Reconciliation event downtown on Monday, September 30.
