After almost a year of working from home, we decided to see if our new coworkers have been paying attention. Take a peak at what the next generation of change-makers has to say.
Established in 1970, MaineLaw’s Cumberland Legal Aid Clinic give students a unique opportunity to develop their skills while providing free legal aid to low-income individuals and families in Maine. Student attorneys assist more than 600 people each year.

“The student attorneys in the Cumberland Legal Clinic are so inspiring. I am excited to see how their careers develop and look forward to seeing what impact they will have on ensuring access to justice for all.” - Courtney Beer, Associate Clinical Professor
Our work would not be possible without the help of Fellows who join our staff every year. Fellowships give new lawyers the opportunity to explore their passions and make a difference in their communities. We currently have two Coffin Fellows, working to handle family law cases for low-income residents of Cumberland County, and one Skadden Fellow, working to ensure that low-income tenants in rural Southern Maine have safe and affordable housing conditions, by representing them in affirmative warranty of habitability actions. We are so grateful to work with these dynamic fellows, many of whom continue on to work as PTLA Staff.
