Dear 3ABN Family,
What does the number 666 mean? The movies and all sorts of theories connect this mysterious number to dark forces, but the Bible connects it to man—and the pride that lurks in his heart!
Lucifer was created as a perfect being—an anointed covering cherub who guarded the throne of God. His very name meant “the shining one,” or “light-bearer,” and his beauty was unsurpassed (see Ezekiel 28). However, Lucifer became so enamored with his own beauty, intelligence, and position that he began to desire the honor and glory that belonged to God, alone.
His sin of pride caused him to be cast out of Heaven, and that same sin of pride was responsible for the downfall of our human race. Today, each of us struggles with pride, a sin so hideous that it tops God’s list of the sins He hates the most! (Proverbs 6:16–19.)
