The next staff collaboration day is Nov. 1

The district's third staff collaboration day is coming up on Tuesday, Nov. 1. This is a day when students do not attend school, and teachers work together and make plans to improve instruction.

There are eight such planning days included in this school year.

As you may recall, when the school district approved the 2022-2023 calendar last February, it announced the addition of eight days for staff planning and collaboration and an additional half day for staff development.

Staff collaboration and planning days have taken place on Sept. 1 and Oct. 17. The next collaboration day is Tuesday, Nov. 1.

What happens on staff collaboration days?

The collaboration days provide valuable time for staff to accomplish critical activities that are difficult to complete during a regular plan time or after school. These include curriculum work, lesson planning, data analysis, staff and special committee meetings, parent contact, and more.

Some specific activities have included:

  • Reviewing results from NWEA testing just days after the assessments were complete.
  • Evaluating student data to plan instructional decisions.
  • Learning about and planning lessons from the new English Language Arts resource.
  • In the picture: Staff from both middle schools met on Sept. 19 to have training in Signs of Suicide (SOS), a suicide prevention program.

A committee of nearly 30 teachers, instructional coaches, and administrators developed the structure for the days. Watch for website and social media posts showing more activities from staff collaboration days.

Calendar reminders:

  • Early dismissal on Thursday, Oct. 27.
  • No school on Friday, Oct. 28, for staff development and parent-teacher conferences
  • No school on Monday, Oct. 31.
  • No school on Tuesday, Nov. 1, to allow for staff planning and collaboration.
