WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN SAYING "SOMEDAY" TO?

When I was 13 years old, I’d wake up early every summer to watch Greg LeMond race in the Tour de France. He was my favorite cyclist, and I was fascinated by everything about the race—the mountains, the strategy, the crowds, and the grit it took to make it to Paris.

Every year, I’d find myself asking the same questions.

What would it feel like to be there?

What would it sound like when the riders flew past?

What would the energy be like standing on one of those legendary climbs?

For more than 30 years, those questions stayed in my imagination.

Then last year, I stopped asking.

I stopped waiting for the “right time.”

I simply made a decision.

“I’m doing it.”

I opened my calendar, picked the dates, and built everything else around them.

It wasn’t just another trip.

It was a promise I’d made to the 13-year-old version of myself.

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized something.

Experiences aren’t just expenses—they’re investments.

Every meaningful experience has taught me something I couldn’t have learned from a book, a podcast, or a video. They change the way you see the world, and often, the way you see yourself.

The Tour de France was no different.

Standing just a few feet from the riders, hearing the helicopters overhead long before the peloton arrived, watching the crowds grow louder with anticipation, and then seeing the cyclists flash by at incredible speed—it was everything I’d imagined for more than three decades.

But the greatest lesson didn’t come from watching the race.

It came from riding the same mountain roads through the French Alps.

Somewhere along those climbs, I realized that life is a lot like riding a bicycle.

Some days you’re climbing, wondering how much farther you have to go.

Some days the road opens up, and you remember why you started.

You’ll face headwinds you didn’t expect.

You’ll take wrong turns.

You’ll have moments when stopping feels easier than continuing.

But you don’t stay balanced by standing still.

You stay balanced by moving forward.

As I stood there watching the Tour de France pass by, I wasn’t thinking about the flights, the hotels, or the years it had taken to finally make the trip.

I was thinking about that 13-year-old kid sitting in front of the television, watching Greg LeMond and wondering what this moment would feel like.

After more than 30 plus years…

He finally got his answer.

That experience reminded me of something I’ll never forget.

Our calendars reveal our priorities.

If something truly matters to us, we don’t wait for life to make room for it. We make room for it ourselves.

So let me ask you the same question I’ve been asking myself.

What have you been saying “someday” to?

Maybe it’s a place you’ve always wanted to visit.

A marathon you’ve dreamed of running.

A business you’ve wanted to start.

A language you’ve wanted to learn.

Or maybe it’s simply spending more intentional time with the people you love.

Whatever it is, don’t leave it in the hands of “someday.”

Open your calendar.

Pick a date.

Start making a plan.

Because the life you’ve imagined rarely begins by accident.

It begins with one decision.

And one day, you’ll look back and realize that the moment your dream became possible wasn’t when you arrived.

It was the day you decided to put it on your calendar.
