Big News: We're expanding our design innovation program for social entrepreneurs and nonprofits!

Social Innovation Studio features a multi-stage process to help social entrepreneur teams and nonprofits make promising ideas even more compelling to beneficiaries of the idea and investors alike.

Last fall, HFLI launched Social Innovation Studio with Ford's corporate foundation, Ford Motor Company Fund, to capitalize on growing millennial interest in and demand for participation in social entrepreneurship projects. Following a successful pilot, Social Innovation Studio is
expanding to include emerging projects and NGO partners from Ford's global communities.

HFLI's design innovation program can also be sponsored by other accelerators and foundations to support their participants and grantees.

Ford's Thirty Under 30 Fellows Highlight Ideas for Local Nonprofits at Annual Showcase

Over the past eight months, 30 Ford employees under the age of 30 from the U.S. and - for the first time, Canada -spent time away from their regular jobs to learn a new way of thinking and leading change.

The six teams of fellows were paired with local nonprofits in a learning experience facilitated by HFLI that would result in promising ideas for addressing the complex issue of homelessness and furthering the nonprofit's goals.

As part of this year's program, six of the Thirty Under 30 fellows participated in a panel discussion with Ford Fund President Jim Vella. The panel focused on how the fellows can translate their experience and the design thinking process back into their jobs at Ford.

"Design Thinking has allowed our team to work fearlessly together to take ideas to new heights," reflected Muneeb Hameed.

Developing Strong Educators

HFLI -- in partnership with Black Male Educators Alliance of Michigan -- is one of 21 semi-finalists selected from nearly 650 applications to the My Brother's Keeper Detroit Innovation Challenge.

The HFLI + BMEA challenge project for MBK will focus on developing strong black male educators for Detroit's youth.
MBK is a $500,000 initiative supported by The Skillman Foundation, Campaign for Black Male Achievement, JP Morgan Chase, and Ford Motor Company Fund. Selections were made by a group of 30 judges, including previous Challenge awardees and Detroit youth.
HFLI + BMEA and the other semi-finalists are currently engaged in an 8-week prototyping phase where they will develop, test and strengthen their ideas to ensure feasibility and impact.
