Maryknoll Lay Missioners - September 2020 mklm news
What if God has something new for me?
New Maryknoll Lay Missioners video
We invite you to introduce your friends and others to Maryknoll Lay Missioners by sharing our new 3-minute video.

Titled “Working for a more just and compassionate world, it gives a brief overview of Maryknoll Lay Missioners and shows how missioners around the world have been responding to the new needs and challenges in their communities during the current pandemic.

If you like it, please share it widely via email or in your social media.
If your parish hosts mission talks but cannot currently invite missioners as speakers due to COVID restrictions, we also have a version of this video specifically created for use in parish mission talks. It's a great alternative to in-person visits, and you can access and share it with your parish here:
Ted's Talk

“In the beginning, God created the heavens and earth” (Gen 1:1).

God has been creating ever since. Dare we open our eyes to see this ever-changing handiwork? And God — source of all creativity, source of our creativity — formed us in God’s image as co-creators. We co-create our lives in relationships, words, music, food, art, gardens, dreams, … the list goes on.

“I am about to do a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?” (Isaiah 43:19)

We also co-create with God through mission. Even though we have no idea where it will take us, our response in mission is rooted in the trust that the Spirit of love nudges us to embrace the unknown, take risks, and discover what God has in store for us. The new video of Maryknoll lay missioners highlighted in this email typifies the newness that springs forth whenever we embrace God’s gift to us — our creativity.

In this Season of Creation, we are invited to listen to the testimony of nature and what it reveals about our Creator and the sacred in all creation. Perhaps, too, we are invited to consider the what-ifs of our creativity: What if God has something new for me? What if my comfort with old ways prevents me from opening up to what God wants to create in or through me? What if my willingness to risk change could make a profound difference in this hurting world right now?

All God’s creation seems to be crying out for something new — a new way of being, a deeper embrace of God’s love. Let us give ourselves the freedom to change. Let us unlock our minds and hearts to see the some new thing God wants us to do, that we may be led to all the wondrous possibilities of the Promised Land.

Yours in mission,
Ted Miles
