What is Dialectical Behavioral Therapy
and How Does it Work?

DBT: An Evidence Based Approach to Building a Satisfying Life

October 6, 2021
9:30 to 12:30
via ZOOM
DBT can be life changing for both client and therapist. Initially
designed to treat people with suicidal behavior and borderline personality disorder, it has been adapted for other mental health problems that threaten a person’s safety, relationships, work, and emotional well-being. It focuses on high-risk, tough-to-treat patients, teaching patients skills to cope with, and change, unhealthy behaviors. The workshop is designed for those who have heard about DBT but need more information and those who know a little but want to know more. It will provide an overview of the therapy model, first reviewing the Foundations of DBT and how this therapy can help clients enhance their capabilities, followed by a review of the modules. The presenter will acquaint attendees with basic tools and teaching strategies and will offer valuable resources for those interested in digging deeper and becoming more skilled.

Gizelle Tircuit, PhD, MS, LPC, DBTC, CGTC is the presenter for this workshop. She received a M.S. in Special Education at Southern Connecticut State University in 1997, a M.S. in General Psychology at Walden University in 2007, and completed her PhD in Counseling Psychology from Walden University in May of 2021. She is a member of the American Psychological Association, Positive Parenting of CT, is a certified Dialectical Behavioral Therapist, a board-certified grief counselor, and a SMART Recovery therapist. An educator with a strong interest in advocating for emotionally disabled students and dual diagnosed individuals, Dr. Tircuit presently teaches at Mitchell College in New London while maintaining a private practice called Magnolia Wellness, LLC also in New London.
