What is leadership? To me, leadership is the art of motivating a group of people to act towards achieving a common goal.
Currently there is a lack of trust in the leadership of the Kane County Board. Board members are not empowered to represent their constituents in voicing their concerns. This lack of trust inhibits our county representatives’ ability to work towards common goals, advocate for Kane County with state legislators, and hurts the residents of our county. Board members (and the residents they serve) deserve a Chairperson who they know is working together with them to do what is best for Kane County - not working against them to advance some other interests. Leading our county should be a collaborative process, not a divisive process.
Here’s how I plan to serve as your County Chairperson – with integrity, accountability, approachability and passion. I currently serve as the Secretary-Treasurer for Teamsters Local 179 with a membership of 3,000 and my job demands these qualities daily. My members trust I will advocate and speak the truth to them when a decision or negotiation does not go in their favor. I am a fierce advocate for my members and understand how to build relationships to facilitate negotiations so all voices are heard. My members also know they can reach me to voice concerns, ask questions and request help. I will bring these same leadership qualities to the job of Kane County Board Chairperson.
These qualities are contagious. When a leader sets the expectations of dialogue, straightforward accountability and trust, other members of the organization can advocate for their constituents’ concerns and know their opinions are respected and part of the decision-making process. I am asking for your support in bringing this type of leadership to the Kane County Board.
