“The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock, penned by T.S. Eliot. Eliot’s poem captures a middle aged man in need of a personal revolution, but unable to escape his own mental prison. The speaker states, “time yet for a hundred indecisions, and a hundred visions and revisions, before the taking of a toast and tea.”
My how I can relate to poor J. Alfred, as I spend hours each day carefully dissecting my choices. The uncertainty of the end result keeps me paralyzed, and constantly preoccupied with further analysis. I revise my visions and stay stuck in indecision. Inspiring people willing to connect with me go unnoticed. Engraved invitations for magical adventures are forever sealed. The universe opens a door to an experience never felt…I stretch my neck as far as I can to peek inside…and then scurry away to construct a list of pros and cons before I take the leap.
None of us can be certain of the outcome to any of our selections. And yet, if we stay bogged down in the decision process we run the risk of missing out on all that is within reach. Our best efforts to avoid mistakes do nothing but rob us of personal miracles. The days are coming, and I for one refuse to waste another moment frozen in contemplation. Instead of wrestling with every possible outcome, I have decided to embrace the endless opportunities. No resolution, intention, or vision has any power until we step onto the stage…own our spotlight…and begin to shine.
2019…join me in the year waiting to be fully lived.
