Can you believe that half of 2021 is already in the rearview mirror! Where did the first six months go? I am loving the long days, the warm evenings, and the opportunity to enjoy all the offerings the Y has for summertime. As we kick off the month of July, our Y is focused on providing increasingly valuable programs and services to enrich your life spiritually, emotionally, physically, and socially. After over a year of shutdowns and shuttered facilities, it brings me great joy to see the youth, teens, families, and seniors of our shared community back at all three of our Y’s smiling, laughing, and being well once again.
Association Board Update: As our Y looks to the future, we are building a team that can help us strive to meet our ambitious goals in the 2021-22 Strategic Plan: Charity, Community & Commerce. This past June we welcomed three new Corporate Board Members to our Y family: Eileen Bergmann from the Walt Disney Company, Katie Cassidy from PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, and Todd Samuelson from Samuelson Partners.
All three board members have a deep connection to the YMCA of the Foothills growing up here in the valley and all benefiting from Y programs and services as both youth and adults. I am looking forward to working closely with Eileen, Katie, and Todd, along with our other 30 Board Members to serve our community through transformational Y programs, services, and outreach. Please join me in welcoming them to our Y family.
I would like to take this time to thank our three outgoing Board Members: Scott Young, Charlie Kamar, and Pastor Rob Holman for their dedicated and thoughtful leadership over the past nine years. During their tenure as board members, our Y brought back the Annual Prayer Breakfast, completed the purchase of the Foothill Athletic Club (CVY), and help guide our growth in Youth Development and Social Responsibility. Thank you for sharing your time, talent, and treasure with our Y.

Program Partnership Highlight: In June, the YMCA of the Foothills signed a landmark service agreement with the Glendale Unified School District to provide six weeks of enrichment summer camp serving up to 360 kids a week. This first-of-its-kind program between GUSD, the YMCA of the Foothills, and the Glendale Family YMCA will start on July 6th at three locations in our service area: Dunsmore Elementary, Valley View Elementary, and Abraham Lincoln Elementary. Additionally, the Glendale YMCA will program these three locations within their service areas: Balboa Elementary, R.D. White Elementary, and Columbus Elementary schools. This partnership once again demonstrates that when communities and organizations come together in service, the result is a positive change for all involved.

As the sun sets on the first half of the calendar year, I am reminded of the strides we have made together through these shifting and challenging times. Thank you for your ongoing support as our Y continues to evolve and keep pace to best serve our entire community.

CAMP BEAR/FORTH OF JULY
Happy Independence Day from your YMCA! Our Campers are headed to an all new Resident Camp up in Big Bear California. Campers will enjoy time together while kayaking, tubing, high ropes courses, archery, and so much more. Campers return July 10th!
