Allison Spears: Standing Strong for the Brentwood We Love

Dear Neighbor,

Serving as your Brentwood City Commissioner for the past two years has been an incredible honor. I am proud to have championed initiatives to honor our Veterans, initiate the Murray Lane median clean out, and contribute to our community’s quality of life in many areas. This experience has been both humbling and fulfilling, and I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to make a positive impact on Brentwood.

I have committed to upholding responsible fiscal principles and opposing tax increases while prioritizing public safety, our infrastructure, and parks. I promised to protect Brentwood’s character by maintaining our cherished 1-acre residential density and opposing the pressure for high-rises in our commercial districts. I will continue to keep these promises.

Developers are constantly eyeing Brentwood and are currently building at our city limits. Just south of our border, 600 apartments and an 8-story hotel were approved by the City of Franklin at the Cool Springs Mall. A 7-story residential building is under construction in Nashville at our northern border. I vow to vote “No” on any changes to increase current commercial zoning and will do everything in my power to prevent this hyper-growth from coming to Brentwood.

Unfortunately, those with a voting record of increasing development density in Brentwood are now challenging my re-election, by seeking to mislead you. As a distraction tactic, they have shifted the focus to a potential indoor racquet facility.

Be informed, not distracted. Here are the FACTS:

• A referendum CANNOT be held (by TN State law) without taking out a loan/bond.

• Cash has been set aside over the past 3 years to fund this potential project, as agreed upon by all 7 Commissioners.

• 3 other Commissioners are now pushing to authorize the City to borrow funds and take out a loan/bond to pay for this project. I do not think it is wise to take out a loan/bond for this project.

• Williamson County removed itself from partnership discussions in August 2023. Passed this month, new TN State Law will enable a public/private partnership to be a potential option for this project.

• The facility is projected to have ALL operating and maintenance costs covered with fees paid by those who play in this facility. No large-scale tournaments will occur.

• I will NOT support new taxes or raising taxes (they are not needed), and I will NOT support taking money from other areas of the budget for this possible project.

This is a pivotal moment for our community. We must stand firm against those with a history of supporting increasing density...the very people trying to mislead you. I ask for your support and your vote so that I can continue to represent your voice and keep Brentwood....Brentwood.

Sincerely,
