Last week I asked:
Given the COVID-19 pandemic, when should North Port reopen our city parks?
1. Right Away (29%)
2. As soon as the Governor begins opening up the state (29%)
3. As soon as the Center for Disease Control (CDC) says it is safe to reopen
(42%)
Some of the opinions expressed on Facebook and via email and phone included:
- If we open before other places, people might flock to North Port that are not from the area to partake in what they don't yet have available. The CDC is federal and in an advisory role; they won't be the ones handing out monies when we can't afford to eat and pay rents. The Governor is the state authority and its the state that we will all first go running to for financial support. It's his job to run to the feds for support if needed. -- Because of that line of thought, I voted #2.
- We should reopen our parks when Sarasota County opens their parks
- We should start resuming a more "normal" lifestyle once we have greater testing capability. I also think face masks should be worn in public, at least until we know that the infection rate is not spiking
