Dear ASMS Community,
Last Tuesday, November 30 was Giving Tuesday!!!
YOU helped us surpass the goal of raising $25,000 in one day, and together the ASMS community raised... $37,010. It was an incredible day for ASMS, and we want to say thank you again for your support!!
The generosity of the community will fund four specific projects to improve campus for students:
- A Laser Cutter for the ASMS Makerspace
- Furnishings for 2 Boys Dorm Study Areas
- Water Fountain Bottle Fillers around Campus
- Furnishings for the School Art Gallery
Every contribution made a difference in far surpassing our goal! In case you missed it, our students helped us make several videos for Giving Tuesday (2 are linked below).
Again, THANK YOU!
Dr. Samantha Church
Vice President of Development and Outreach

Winning the Debate
Senior Ozzie Torres and Sophomore Brantley Howard competed in Lincoln-Douglas debate at the Holy Cross Navy and Old Gold Tournament online. It was the first tournament for both students. In the end, Brantley won half of his rounds and Ozzie made it to semifinals, ultimately landing in 3rd place overall! They were competing against some of the most accomplished novice debaters in the country, so these accomplishments are really great to see!

Recently in O-Chem!
Dr. Elisa Rambo’s Winter Term Organic Chemistry students used the research grade Fourier-Transform Infrared (FT-IR) spectrometer to monitor the progress of an organic substitution reaction. Students learned how infrared wavelengths of energy can be used to analyze the structure of organic molecules and observe functional group transformation. The Bruker Alpha II spectrometer, purchased in 2018, was made possible by a generous donation from The Crampton Trust.

AP Biology students Rita and Destiny use indicator tests for proteins, lipids, sugars, and starch to solve a macromolecule murder mystery by analyzing (fake) vomit stomach content of the murder victim. The possible suspects were thought to share a last meal with the victim so the indicator tests of the stomach content would match a suspect.
