About 1,000 Nebraskans responding to the 2022 Rural Poll hosted by the UNL Institute of Agricultural and Natural Resources offered a window into their employment preferences.
Although most expected inflation, interest rates, the cost of living and investment income to worsen over the next year, few showed signals of employment changes in the near future.
Current employers are performing relatively well on characteristics that matter most to respondents.

Perfect storm in diesel
Prices have increased to $5.30/gallon and are expected to grow another 15 to 20 cents. Diesel reserves stand at their lowest since 1951, with a more acute situation in New England. Refineries can’t produce enough. Ports are struggling, which can mean more challenges getting U.S. products to market. Waivers to transport tankers between U.S. ports are reviewed on a one-on-one basis.

Pumpkins, mazes bring value
