A Message from Rabbi Wexler | |
We are now firmly in the Hebrew month of Elul, and Rosh Hashanah is just a little over two weeks away. Elul is a time for reflection and introspection. It is a month for study and for preparing our hearts, bodies, and minds for the High Holy Days. It is a time for heshbon ha-nefesh, soul accounting. It is a time in which we challenge ourselves each day to discover and to grow.
A story is told of Rabbi Levi Yitzchak of Berditchiv (1740-1809), who one year, at the beginning of the month of Elul, stood at his window as a traveling shoe-repairman passed by. Hoping for a customer, he asked “Don’t you have anything that needs to be fixed?” Immediately, the rabbi sat on the ground and began cry while saying “Woe is me, and woe to my soul, for the Day of Judgment is imminent and coming, and I still have not yet fixed myself!”

And just like that the summer is (almost) over. Always goes too fast. We are hard at work preparing for the High Holy Days and the programmatic year.
Please remember to submit your school registration forms and membership renewal forms with your High Holy Days seating/livestream requests ASAP if you have not done so already.
High Holy Day packets, which will include your tickets, will be available for pickup in the TBS office between 12pm to 5pm on Tuesday, September 5 and 9am to 5pm on Wednesday, September 6. Please help TBS save money on postage by picking up your packet. All remaining packets will be mailed on Thursday, September 7.
Lulav and Etrog order forms are due by Friday, September 8. The Lulav/Etrog order form can be found by clicking here or click here to visit our HHD page on our website.

Mahzor Lev Shalem
Dedicate a new Mahzor Lev Shalem, High Holy Day prayerbook, in honor or in memory of a loved one, with an inscription and book plate that will be used in the congregational service for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.

Goodblatt Academy
The Rabbi Morris Goodblatt Academy is an introduction to Judaism Course sponsored by the Philadelphia Region of the Rabbinical Assembly, which represents Conservative Jewish rabbis in Greater Philadelphia, Southern New Jersey and Delaware. This 18-session course is both for conversion candidates and anyone interested in learning the basics of Judaism and Hebrew. Fall semester begins on September 6. Temple Beth Sholom strives to create strong, long-lasting relationships with its students, even after they have graduated from high school and are pursuing a higher education. TBS wants to be there for your children as they begin to choose their own Jewish path by keeping in touch.
We can help them feel connected to TBS by having the synagogue send a package for the holidays with a warm note from Rabbi Peltz and Rabbi Wexler. In the past, we charged for these packages, but we are grateful to the Shapiro Family Fund who have made a generous donation that will enable us to send these packages to all of our students FREE OF CHARGE!

Pack-a-Sack for Back-to-School
The Interfaith Homeless Outreach Council is collecting back to school items, such as pens, pencils, markers, crayons, glue sticks, notebook paper, rulers, folders, etc. for distribution to homeless shelters in the area.
