RCPL STANDS AGAINST BOOK BANS
It's Banned Books Week and now is the perfect time to share our Library Director, Derek Wolfgram's statement on the banning of books: "Redwood City Public Library's mission is centered on sharing the joy of reading and learning. In recent months, the act of banning books has become alarmingly prevalent across the United States. The books that have been challenged and banned are largely titles that explore historically marginalized populations. Censorship has no place in libraries and Redwood City Public Library welcomes all viewpoints in our collections. In fact, RCPL centers our service priorities around inclusive programs, services and books that lead to equitable outcomes for members of the highly diverse community we serve. Our readers have the right to choose what they read and we do everything to preserve this choice." To read the Library Director's full statement, click here

News from the Library Foundation
The purpose of the Redwood City Library Foundation’s Upscale Pub Crawl this week is not just to raise money to support library initiatives, but also to raise awareness about Banned Books week. Censorship is on the rise and the current upward trend in challenges to books in schools and libraries threatens the freedom to choose what to read. There are only a few tickets left for the event, but we encourage you to visit our web page at rclfdn.org to learn more about challenged and banned books and find links with more interesting information, including how you can help fight censorship. And please continue to support the Library Foundation so we can continue to support library initiatives!
