DCCA Grant Award to Glen’s Market AccelerateHERdc Program
|
|
DCCA is delighted to announce that it awarded a community grant to Danielle Vogel, owner of Glen’s Market, to help support her AccelerateHERdc Program, a seasonal grant program designed to identify, incubate, and accelerate women of color who are doing spectacular work in the sustainable food space.
With DCCA’s support, this season’s grant is reinvesting in Ashleigh Pearson, a chocolatier who studied at the Cordon Bleu in Paris and created Petite Soeur. Over the past four months, the Petite Soeur pop-up shop has been welcomed at Glen's, and more recently, Ashleigh has moved her production to Glen’s kitchen.
Ashleigh will use her second AccelerateHERdc grant to secure her very own production and retail space -- a huge step in the achievement of her long-term goals. Danielle reports “we could not be more excited to cheer Ashleigh on through this next chapter of her entrepreneurial journey!”
She also encourages everyone to come by Glen’s and sample Ashleigh’s handmade magical shortbread cookies and her bonbons, which are works of art.

The reviews are in...
DCCA Board member Marcy Logan was recently spotted on zoom indulging in a purchased box. Though she did not offer to share...she did declare that French elegance has come to Washington in the form of chocolate, "This chocolate should be found in the most expensive shops in Paris. Ashleigh Pearson’s (@petitesoeurdc) creations are an exquisite combination of art and food."
Et voila! Nonpareil! For you and your dear ones, a chocolate without comparison! Go ahead and help a local business grow during a challenging time, while you treat yourself to a taste of exceptional chocolate, fill an Easter Basket, or drop off a box to cheer a friend!

There are mixed reports about how invasive Brood X will be this year but the map from researchers at UCONN appears to smother DC in a cicada swarm.
It's reported that global warming has made it tricky to predict exact timing, but a cicada swarm typically starts in May and is over by late June. A few sources have offered up tips on how to prepare your yard.
Another way to "prepare" is in the kitchen .... anyone remember when this article was the talk of the town 17 years ago? Cicada: The Other, Other White Meat - LINK
