WHAT'S COMING TO JP?

Little Free Library Celebration

March 23 - 10am to Noon

Take a book/bring a book, buy a JP history book, enjoy refreshments, and visit with neighbors

ABOVE: Little Free Library today welcomes you

BELOW: First Little Free Library and a little history

We will share a little history, sell our Jefferson Park history book for $10, and give away free history bookmarks while they last.

2018 First Little Free Library Celebration. Case donated by Nancy and refurbished by Bob. A bench was soon added by Joanne and many folks found a place to read under the Palo Verde tree.

2023 The Palo Verde had to come down

2024 The Friends of Jefferson Park, Inc and JPNA funded the new set of libraries you see today.

WHAT'S COMING TO JP? Side Panels for Campbell Monument Signs

Completing the Campbell Signage The original sign was designed with two additional panels for each sign. JPNA has now funded the added pieces, so be sure to watch for the upcoming installation!

Design and fabrication by JPNA neighbor and artist, Carly Quinn.

WHAT'S COMING TO JP: Monument Sign at Park Ave and Grant Rd

Existing sign at Grant and First

Made possible from a gift from Prime Leaf, volunteers, and JPNA fundraisers. As the Grant Road project returns to Phase 5/6, three other signs are planned.

Preparing for new sign at Park and Grant

In the rain, Wednesday, Feb. 29th

Thanks to a gift in memory of Minnette Burges and JPNA fundraisers, Jefferson Park will install a second monument sign at Park and Grant. The coming sign will be similar to the existing one, with two exceptions. The sign will be taller, and the cut-out letters will be backed with silver. Above right: Department of Transportation Jesse Soto and fabricator Jason Butler of Metalwerks, LLC measure out the location of the new sign.

Getting ready for the Plant Sale

First weekend in May -

preparations underway

TO DONATE: If you have pots or potting soil that you no longer need, please drop them off at 1641 E. Waverly St. The best place to leave your donations is on Warren by the blue recycle bin. We also can use broken clay pots, so don’t toss them out, bring them on over.

GARDEN MATERIALS: Clay or ceramic pots, potting soil, tools, gloves, hoses, interesting containers like metal watering cans, shovels, rakes, anything that we can put a plant in, etc. Last year we had two red wagons full of succulents for sale.

PLANT CUTTINGS: Now is the time for cuttings to get well rooted before the sale. We can take the cuttings, or you could donate the parent plant, and we will do it.

DONATIONS FOR POTTING SOIL: Another option is to donate $ towards the plant sale soil.

Pima County teams up with United Way

for free tax assistance

If you have a family income of less than $79,000, you might be eligible for help preparing your state and federal taxes this year. Starting Feb. 5, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program will offer free tax-preparation assistance to individuals and families who meet the income qualifications.

This year, VITA is offering three different tax-preparation options for taxpayers to choose from:

  • You can do a traditional “one and done” meeting with a tax preparer, which usually takes about an hour.
  • You can bring your paperwork and review it with a tax preparer. Then, a volunteer will prepare your tax returns. Once you’ve signed them via email, VITA will electronically file them for free. The initial review takes about 30 minutes, and the results are ready within 2-3 weeks.
  • You can take a DIY class to learn how to prepare your own tax returns. Six classes are available and space is limited; visit www.unitedwaytucson.org/vita to register.

Appointments are available and have priority. Walk-ins are on a first-come, first-served basis. You must bring a picture ID, a Social Security card for each family member, proof of income, your account and routing numbers (for direct deposit of your refund), and—if you received the Arizona Families Tax Rebate—Form 1099-MISC from the Arizona Department of Revenue.

CONSTRUCTION IN JP

a Neighborhood Preservation Zone - NPZ

DO THEY HAVE A PERMIT? Have you seen any building or construction in the neighborhood that doesn't have a permit, or remodeling you have questions about? Jefferson Park has a committee that works with Tucson Planning and Development to assure that changes stay within the scope of Jefferson Park's Neighborhood Preservation Zone.

E-mail the address and your questions to jpnalanduse@gmail.com

NEED A PERMIT? PDSD launched a Permit Dashboard in November 2023. The interactive dashboard provides insight into the permitting process. Users can gain an understanding of review times, allowing staff and customers to pinpoint areas of improvement or excellence. Since the launch, PDSD has consistently met target review times more than 90% of the time.

NOTE: TWO OPTIONS FOR GLASS RECYCLING If you can't get to a glass recycling site (purple bins) go ahead and use the Blue Barrel. Either way the glass will be recycled.

Ward III is accepting furniture, cooking supplies, etc.—anything that might help someone set up a house. Drop items off at the Ward III office, 1510 E Grant (corner of Grant and Vine). Is the item too big? Give Ward III a call for pickup at (520) 791-4711; they will come, pick it up, and take it to the Wildcat House, where it will help folks who are just getting into housing.

Ward III also has "Slow Down" signs - FOR FREE!

Edison/Campbell Street Parklet Maintenance

On the 3rd Saturday of the month at 8:00 a.m., at the east end of Edison at Campbell Avenue, neighbors do a quick cleanup of the parklet. It's easy with neighbors helping. Just show up; all garbage bags and tools are supplied. You are always welcome to go when it suits your schedule. If you do pick up trash during another time, please contact Joanne Osuna at cricket16@cox.net , and your time will count. We report our hours to Tucson Clean & Beautiful as part of the Adopt-a-Park Program. (JP Contact- Joanne Osuna cricket16@cox.net )
