Special Announcements
Network For Youth is doing a collection of backpacks for homeless. Donna asks that backpacks are unfilled (easier for storage) and supplies grouped in items that fit together. Some ideas of helpful bag fillers include: wet wipes, deodorant, antibacterial hand gel, the little $1 rain ponchos, hand warmers, chap sticks, band aids, Tylenol/Ibuprofen, sanitary items for women, Kleenex packs, tooth brush/paste, socks, and snacks. Also, every Saturday, Donna makes a soup meal that is available all day for those in need of warm meal. She has started using the Bear Paw Soup Mix from the store. If you wish to drop off supplies, you can do so at Network For Youth, 21 S. 2nd Street, BRF.

Christkindl Court Applications are available for pick up at the Chamber of Commerce, Reflections on Water, The General Merchant and Millie J's. Applications are due November 15th. Applicant must be between the ages of 12-15 as of November 15th, 2019 and reside within the Black River Falls School District area.
Duties of the Christkindl Court are participation in Christkindl 2019 and 2020, Project Christmas (December 10th and 12th, 2019) Karner Blue Butterfly Festival (July 18th, 2020) Art Festival (Date to be determined) and other promotional events put on by the Downtown Association.
Interviews will be December 5th at 6pm (location to be announced).
Coronation will be Saturday December 7th at 10am at 124 Main Street, previously the Performing Arts Center.

The Alpaca General Store: It's that time of year again. The chill of an early fall reminds us that before we know it, winter will be at our doorsteps along with the season for gift giving. Scholarship Opportunity - The AXA Achievementsm Scholarship provides over $1.4 million in scholarships to young people throughout the nation representing all 50 states, Washington DC and Puerto Rico. Students have the opportunity to receive a $2,500, $10,000 or $25,000 scholarship. We hope you continue to enjoy our beautiful trails and visit this wonderful part of Wisconsin. It is always our number one priority to provide a safe and enjoyable experience. Trails will re-open on December 15 for the winter.

Educational Opportunities
The Black River Area Chamber of Commerce, the Western Dairyland Business Center and the Western Wisconsin Women’s Business Center present the Business Bookkeeping with QuickBooks®.

This hands-on series is being held Monday evening on November 25, from 5:30pm to 8:30pm at the Black River Area Chamber of Commerce, 120 N Water St, Black River Falls, WI 54615 . Tuition is $39 for Chamber members and $49 for non-Members. Scholarships are available for income-eligible individuals. Laptops will be available for use during the class or you may bring your own.

Whether you are new to business bookkeeping or just new to the QuickBooks® software, this class will tie it all together. Learn the key financial terms and underlying concepts you need to know, as well as the practical, day-to-day steps to effectively manage your business bookkeeping and track your business growth. Small business owners, independent contractors, freelancers and self-employed individuals are encouraged to attend. In this class, you will learn the nuts and bolts of invoicing, billing, receiving payments, banking transactions and sales receipts. If time permits, we will also discuss how to run business financial reports and what should be in a chart of accounts. Bring your questions!

Class will be taught by Evlyn Carlile. Evlyn has more than 20 years of bookkeeping experience and is the owner of Simple Office Solutions. Simple Office Solutions has been helping Chippewa Valley business owners with everything from answering their bookkeeping questions to giving them monthly or quarterly financial reports since 2004. The basis for all services is getting each business owner set up with a tax-ready bookkeeping system they understand and can use.

1-30             Lunda Center’s Virtual 5K Run/Walk Series “Where’s the Turkey?” $5 for members and $7 for non-members – per race of the 3 run series. Sign up for all three in the series and receive an awesome t-shirt and some bragging rights!

14       The University of Wisconsin Division of Extension will be hosting a beef program at Jackson Electric Community Room. Topics of discussion include the value of pregnancy checking, strategic deworming, and body condition scoring along with preparing facilities for winter. A brief portion of the evening will also be spent discussing retained ownership analysis in light of recent feed and commodity prices. This event is free and open to the public. 14       BHome Services and Supplies and Black River Memorial Hospita l will be having their annual Evergreen Memorial Service at 7pm. 15       Western Technical College - LaCrosse will have a seminar on Introduction to Google Drive. Google Drive allows shared access to specific documents from any computer. As an overview of all the tools available in this free web based system, this class covers document creation, sheets, slides, and more. The experienced instructor works extensively in Google Drive. Prerequisites: a Window introduction class or equivalent experience, some internet experience, and helpful ( but not required) to have a Google account set up prior to class. 15       Western Technical College- LaCrosse will host a seminar on “Hiring and Retaining a Diverse Workforce”. Attracting and retaining a diverse workforce doesn't end with recruiting - it's only the first step! Keeping a successful, diverse workforce requires a welcoming and inclusive environment that creates a sense of belonging and personal investment. This session provides employers with tools and ideas to grow and strengthen through diversity. Topics include an overview of the business case for diversity, recruiting and onboarding for a diverse workforce, recognizing and avoiding bias, proper training of supervisors, understanding cultural issues and creating and sustaining a welcoming environment. The Highground is a 155 acre Memorial Park that pays tribute to the dead, and honors the survivors, their service, and their sacrifices. It also pays tribute to the people who supported them when they were away and upon their return. The Highground has a Dove Effigy Mound, a Meditation Garden, a developmental forest with 4 miles of hiking trails, and a Museum. We have now added a 300 acre camp just 20 minutes north of The Highground, which will be used to host Veteran Retreats and other Highground events. We continue to pursue our mission of healing and education through added tours, Educational Days, and various expos. We are a 501(c)3 grass-roots effort, with no ongoing federal or state funding. Volunteers and contributors are the Heart of The Highground.
