Week 4 - Fall Semester 2022/22

Principal's message:

Happy Friday Coyotes! It has ben a short, but very busy week! We held our first PTSA meeting of the year, and seated a full slate of board members and representatives.  It is a great testament to our growing parent involvement here at BPHS. We have over twice as many members this year than last, passing the 100 member mark before the school year even started! We would like all our parents to be involved in some way, even if it's just as a member...so scroll down to the PTSA section in the newsletter and join us!

Checkout some of our Coyotes in the community. Our girls soccer program was in attendance at the CSUF game this past week. Fun team building! Coach Wineman also sent a message that if any girls are interested in joining the team to come see her in room 112.

This Sunday is September 11th, which is Patriots Day.  Although it is not a national holiday, it is a day of remembrance.  Click on the picture above to see the BPHS AFJROTC 20th Anniversary Assembly.

Save the date Coyotes for next Wednesday - Back to School Night - we hope to see you there!

So as I write this, it looks like the monsoon is coming in! We definitely need the rain, and for the 100 degree temps to subside. So bring it on mother nature! :)

Have a great weekend Coyotes!

Attention Parents/Guardians

Later this year, we will have our big WASC visit, which is the opportunity for us to showcase our school to the Western Association of School and Colleges. We want YOU to be part of our team. Use the QR code above, or click on the flyer to sign up.

Athletics

Football

Varsity FB is home again next Thursday night against Pacifica HS.  In honor of Patriots Day it is our Military, Veterans, and First Responders game.  Come out and show your support as our team looks to end pre-season play with a winning record!

Boys Waterpolo

Boys water polo is hosting the Ted Clark Classic this weekend. As of me writing this, the boys won the first game of the tournament 16-7! They play again tonight at 8pm @ BPHS.  As long as there is no lightning in the area, we'll be playing...so come out and support!

Girls Tennis

Congratulations to our Lady Coyotes Tennis team on their win vs. Santa Fe HS this week. Despite the heat, they were on their game and ready to go, so much so that the other team decided to give up midway through the match! Great job ladies!

Cross Country

The first cross country league cluster meet was postponed to Monday, September 12 and will be at Troy High School.  Good luck Coyotes!

Seniors planning to apply to private colleges or out of state schools, please check the requirements to apply to the colleges you are interested in to find out if the SAT or ACT is required. Cal State Universities and University of California colleges do not use SAT or ACT scores in the admissions process but other schools may consider or require scores. Now is the time to register for those tests if you need scores. Registration is done online.

PSAT is coming October 12th for 10th and 11th grade students. PSAT scores are used for some scholarship programs and will give you a good idea of your SAT scores. All 10th and 11th graders planning to go to 4 year colleges are encouraged to take the PSAT.

Coyote Corner
"Support is just around the corner"
Buena Park High School values all student’s social-emotional health, and we have developed a center that houses resources to support students throughout the day. Students who need a safe place to cope with anxiety, stress or need someone to talk to can visit our COYOTE CORNER (Room 27) at the front of the school. The Corner is open before and after school, during lunch and breaks, by appointment with a therapist, or with a pass from a teacher or administrator. Please stop in and visit and know that "Support is just around the CORNER."

Students...do you know your SLOs
Student Learning Outcomes
The purpose of SLOs are to increased student awareness of their own learning

Explicitly-stated learning goals give students a way to think and talk about what they have learned. They make it easier for students to “know what they know” and give students a language to communicate what they know to others. Such awareness is considered central to learning that lasts.
Have a Great Week Coyotes!
It's a Great Time to be a Coyote!
We boast an amazingly diverse student body that enriches the campus on a daily basis. Our focus on success means we hold all students to high expectations, and provide a supportive environment in order to help them reach their dreams. The work will be hard, but we provide the means for all students to be connected to high school and gain future college and career ready success.
