Week 5 - Fall Semester 2022/22

Principal's message:

We made it to Friday Coyotes! What a busy, but fun week it has been! It started off with boys polo winning the Ted Clark Classic and girls cross country placing 2nd in their first league cluster match.  We then hosted a larger than normal crowd at Back to School night, with standing room only in the PAC to start off the evening.

The week continued with amazing pep rallies to honor Patriot Day and support our FB team to victory, girls tennis smacking their way to another win, and cross country once again placing high and medaling in their next race...this time at the Woodbridge invitational.

We then capped off the week with a packed food fest, the 1st one of the year! Lots of great things happening at The Park. It's a great time to be a Coyote!

Have a great weekend Coyotes!

Football

Congratulations Coach Prieto and Varsity FB for completing the football pre-season with a 3-2 winning record.  They held off a late surge by Pacifica HS and shut the door on their offense to come away with a 20-19 victory.  It was Patriots Day as well where we honored our Military, Veterans, and First Responders. In addition, at halftime we recognized Dr. Hoops, who was BPHS' team doctor for the past decade. It was an amazing game all around. We look forward to seeing you at our next home game on October 7th as we Pink Out for Cancer.

Boys Waterpolo

Boys water polo won the Ted Clark Classic by beating all four of their opponents by a combined score of 60-28.  They beat Pioneer Valley and Garden Grove Friday, and came back Saturday to beat Sunny Hills and then Royal to capture the tournament.  They play again this evening against Chino Hills to start the Western Tournament. The boys are currently 7-0 and ranked #1 in their Division! Good luck Boys!

Girls Tennis

Congrats to our Varsity girls tennis team for beating Anaheim HS. They were led by Doubles team Saloni and Ana who had 3 doubles wins. Doubles teams Guadalupe and Stephanie and Alondra and Nat both had two wins of their own. Singles players Alexia, Nina, and Hailee each had a win as well.

Congrats to the JV tennis team on their win vs. Anaheim High School yesterday. Jojo had two singles wins, Tram had two singles wins, Val and Erin had two doubles wins and Mckinley and Citlali got a win of their own! Great job ladies!

Girls Cross Country

Our cross country teams were busy this week with two races. On Monday, our runners opened up league at Troy High School and performed well.

On the girls side, the Varsity Team placed 2nd in our League Cluster opener. The team was led by team captain Yessenia Chavez, followed by Stephanie Pineda and Jacqueline Totolhua. BP had two girls finish in the top 10, Yessenia 5th and Stephanie 8th overall.

On Thursday, the Girls team ran in the Woodbridge Invitational and placed

9th overall with 6 PRs and 6 medals.

Yessenia Chavez 19:46

Hana Martin 19:54

Jackie Totolhua 19:58

Corinne Porras 20:12

Stephanie Pineda 20:14

JV girls team placed 3rd with 5 medaled.

Boys Cross Country

Monday was the 1st cluster league race @Troy HS. The boys placed 4th as a team with David Juarez leading the pack, finishing 2nd place overall(17:24), with Nathaniel Guerrero finishing 7th place (17:58). They will still have 2 more chances to place and go to CIF.

On Thursday in the Woodbridge Invitational, personal records were being broken by almost everyone on the team! On the boys side, the seniors placed 3rd as a team, earning themselves a patch, with Nathaniel Guerrero leading and placing 14th place(16:55), Jacob Rodriguez(18:05), David Alvarez(18:21), Miguel Cartagena(18:46), Isaias Valdes(18:56), and Marcos Hernandez(18:58). In the juniors race, Israel placed 10th (17:45) and Edwin 70th (19:50). Our sophomore Joseph Hsu placed 91th (19:16) earning himself a medal along with some of his other teammates!

The highlight of the evening was the final race where David Juarez ran solo in the varsity race placing 11th with a time of 15:54! (That’s a 5:18 mile pace average). It was an emotional finish for him as he was able to break 16 min for the first time, a goal he has been working hard to break since his freshman year.  As he finished the race he broke down a little bit saying, “It takes so much...” We all understood what he meant.

It was the last race of the night, and it highlighted all the work these young athletes put in this off-season. They'll be back at it next weekend at the Wayne Walker Invitational at Craig Park!

Good luck Coyotes runners!

Seniors planning to apply to private colleges or out of state schools, please check the requirements to apply to the colleges you are interested in to find out if the SAT or ACT is required. Cal State Universities and University of California colleges do not use SAT or ACT scores in the admissions process but other schools may consider or require scores. Now is the time to register for those tests if you need scores. Registration is done online.

It's a great way to be involved!

Last night prior to the FB game I was able to attend the Advance! 20th Anniversary dinner. Advance! provides equity of access to college for historically under-served and under-represented families to enable them to participate in the dream and the promise of a college education. All services are FREE of CHARGE, and it was so nice to see our district and school representatives there, as well as some old friends from high school supporting the organization! Thank you Mr Lentz (retired LHHS teacher) and Mr. Gatchel - far left - (LH Class of 95) for starting this organization 20 years ago. Advance! has helped thousands of students over the years attain their dreams of attending college. BPHS looks forward to many more years of partnership.

Students...do you know your SLOs
Student Learning Outcomes
The purpose of SLOs are to increased student awareness of their own learning

Explicitly-stated learning goals give students a way to think and talk about what they have learned. They make it easier for students to “know what they know” and give students a language to communicate what they know to others. Such awareness is considered central to learning that lasts.
Have a Great Week Coyotes!
