Week 11 - Spring Semester 2021/22

Principal's message:
Happy Spring Break everyone! It was a fun-filled Peppy week here at The Park. Yes, it was Pep Week, our annual spirit week full of decorations and skits themed by class with competitions during break and lunch. The seniors went all out this year, even getting their Principal (me) to make a cameo during their skit at lunch. :) They won the overall spirit week competition as well as taking home "Best Skit Originality." The other three classes represented well, with the Juniors winning "Most Skit Participation," Sophomores getting "Best Dance," and Freshman with their "Exceptional Hall Decoration" award. Great job BP!

ASB was also quite busy in other ways over the past week as the lower three classes participated earlier today at Sonora HS in the District Student Advisory Council (SAC) Symposium. In addition, last weekend they went to Fullerton Union for their annual service project. Great involvement and a commitment of service to others.

Choir put on a great show in the PAC last Friday evening, complete with Jazz Ensemble and special guests from Buena Park Middle School. BPMS and BPHS did a few joint numbers which sounded amazing, especially given the fact they had minimal rehearsal time together. I'm so excited for our future Coyotes and the program going forward. In addition, there was a little sneak peak into the Spring Musical - Cinderella, featuring Emily Byun as Cinderella. Make sure you save the date for the last weekend in April. The musical is going to be magical. :)

|
In addition to our Pep Week, we also celebrated "Coyote Day" on March 17th. Celebrated by some as St. Patrick's Day, we here at BPHS go all green for our Coyotes!
As we head off into Spring Break, I want to wish everyone a nice and relaxing week. We all know how fast the first three quarters of the year have flown by...well, the last two months will go even faster. So come back ready to sprint to the finish and RISE UP BP.
Have a great weekend and Spring Break!

Congratulations BPHS Girls State winner, Saloni Kainth. This summer, Saloni will travel to Sacramento State University and participate in a life-changing week, developing her leadership skills, learning about state and local government processes, discussing important issues with peers from all over the state, and having fun in this unique environment. One junior girl is chosen from each high school to represent their school.

Congratulations Varsity Softball who improved their record to 12-2 this week. They beat Valencia HS 14-1 on the back of two grand slams! One by Mia Gonzalez and the other by Kaydence Wynglarz. Samantha Orozco also hit a homerun and Jade Sanchez pitched a complete game giving up only one run. Thursday they continued their run by beating Bellflower HS 10-0. Savannah Salgado led the offense, hitting a triple and a double. Samantha Orozco and Nadiyah Huizar also recorded doubles. Mia Gonzalez recorded her second complete game shut out of the season. Great job ladies!

AP Capstone™ is a diploma program based on two year long AP courses: AP Seminar and AP Research. These courses are designed to complement other AP courses that the AP Capstone student may take.
Instead of teaching specific subject knowledge, AP Seminar and AP Research use an interdisciplinary approach to develop the critical thinking, research, collaboration, time management, and presentation skills students need for college-level work.
The College Board developed the AP Capstone Diploma program at the request of higher education professionals, who saw a need for a systematic way for high school students to begin mastering these skills before college. The program has become a cornerstone at BP for our high-end academic college-bound students. In the second year of the program, students develop a dissertation, complete with research data, and then defend that dissertation in front of a panel prior to submission to College Board. Here is a current example of one of our students' research topic. She is currently gathering survey data from adults (18 and over) in the local area on her topic. If you have a few minutes, please scan the QR code and participate. It is anonymous and all data will be kept confidential.

BPHS A.R.M Program Director Mr. Nehme and I met with representatives from RBC Bearings Inc. to discuss a future partnership to provide BPHS students internships starting as early as this summer! We were able to get an amazing tour of their facility right here in our own backyard, and see the synergy between what they do and our program. More information to come as we hash out the details, but the potential opportunities could be amazing and we look forward to this new relationship going forward.

Coyote Corner
"Support is just around the corner"
|
|
Buena Park High School values all student’s social-emotional health, and we have developed a center that houses resources to support students throughout the day. Students who need a safe place to cope with anxiety, stress or need someone to talk to can visit our COYOTE CORNER (Room 27) at the front of the school. The Corner is open before and after school, during lunch and breaks, by appointment with a therapist, or with a pass from a teacher or administrator. Please stop in and visit and know that "Support is just around the CORNER."

Student Learning Outcomes
|
The purpose of SLOs are to increased student awareness of their own learning
Explicitly-stated learning goals give students a way to think and talk about what they have learned. They make it easier for students to “know what they know” and give students a language to communicate what they know to others. Such awareness is considered central to learning that lasts.
