Principal's message:
Happy Friday Coyotes! February is here, and with it comes a couple three-day weekends! But you'll have to wait a week for one of those :)
February is also the start of Black History Month, and big thanks to our BSU who have been sharing interesting facts and information each day during our daily announcements.
On Wednesday our AFJROTC had their big three year inspection, receiving an "exceeds expectations." They will be named a Distinguished Unit again this year which makes it 10 years running! What an amazing BPHS program.

Congratulations to both Girls Basketball, Boys Basketball and Girls Water polo on winning seasons. They all ended up with winning records and are eligible for at large berths in CIF. Lastly, Congrats to JV Boys Soccer on winning league! Great job to all athletes.
It looks like it's going to warm up a little bit this weekend. Have a great weekend Coyotes!

FJUHSD Annual Art Show at The Muckenthaler
The FJUHSD Annual Art Show continues next week at the Muckenthaler Cultural Center in Fullerton. I got to peruse the amazing works of art opening night last week, and took pics of all the BP artwork I could find (I hope I got everyone). Congratulations to those Coyotes who have pieces in the Cultural Center Exhibit. It's another example of BP Excellence! The Muckenthaler is open for you to go see their work. Check times and dates on the flyer above.

Congratulations Boys Basketball who beat La Habra HS Tuesday in a nail biter of a game 53-52. They have one last game this evening at LHHS to conclude league play. They are looking for their 17th win of the season and are hopeful for an at large berth into CIF next week. Good luck boys! Make it 2-0 vs LH this week!
Girls Basketball beat Fullerton HS last Friday 56-19. Then on Monday they took a Division 1 Troy program down to the wire, losing by only 6 points in the last minute of the game. They finished the season with a 14-11 record and qualify for an at large berth in the CIF playoffs. We'll know next week if they get selected, so keep your fingers crossed Coyotes!
Congratulations Girls Varsity water polo on a winning season. They won their last league game vs. Troy HS 13-3, with Senior Selena Martinez scoring 11 goals! Selena has 165 goals on the season, one shy of leaping into the CIF record books for top 10 all time single season goals scored by a player. But guess what...they have one more game to play! It is today vs. Western HS here at BPHS! Good luck Selena!

Congrats to Varsity Boys Soccer on a hard fought tie with La Habra HS to start off the week. Big recognition to our JV Boys Soccer on their Freeway League Championship with an overall record of 14-2-2! The team was led by Captain, Jorge Marquez. Jose Ramos was fantastic in the goal (only got scored on twice during league) with Jay Diaz and Yandel Saucedo also doing a great job as keepers as well! Solid defense was the backbone of the team, made up of Leo Saldaña, Alejandro Jimenez, Daniel Mejia, Nickson Zuniga, Efrain Tepotzotlán and Axel Argueta. But you can't win if you don't score goals! The JV team scored close to 50 goals, many of them were scored or assisted by: Erik Conriquez, Edwin Conriquez, Christian Villanueva, Adrian Martinez, Ivan Ramirez, Angel Pelaez, Josh Medina, Luis Rebolledo and Steven Castro.

Congratulations Girls Soccer on a great season. They finished with 9 wins, and a handful of one goal differentials in league. It's been one of the best seasons in the past couple decades. It's a young team and we hope to be even stronger next year and build off this year's successes! Great job girls!

BPHS A.R.M Program Director Mr. Nehme and I met with representatives from RBC Bearings Inc. to discuss a future partnership to provide BPHS students internships starting as early as this summer! We were able to get an amazing tour of their facility right here in our own backyard, and see the synergy between what they do and our program. More information to come as we hash out the details, but the potential opportunities could be amazing and we look forward to this new relationship going forward.

Coyote Corner
"Support is just around the corner"
Buena Park High School values all student’s social-emotional health, and we have developed a center that houses resources to support students throughout the day. Students who need a safe place to cope with anxiety, stress or need someone to talk to can visit our COYOTE CORNER (Room 27) at the front of the school. The Corner is open before and after school, during lunch and breaks, by appointment with a therapist, or with a pass from a teacher or administrator. Please stop in and visit and know that "Support is just around the CORNER."

Students...do you know your SLOs
Student Learning Outcomes
The purpose of SLOs are to increased student awareness of their own learning
Explicitly-stated learning goals give students a way to think and talk about what they have learned. They make it easier for students to “know what they know” and give students a language to communicate what they know to others. Such awareness is considered central to learning that lasts.

We boast an amazingly diverse student body that enriches the campus on a daily basis. Our focus on success means we hold all students to high expectations, and provide a supportive environment in order to help them reach their dreams. The work will be hard, but we provide the means for all students to be connected to high school and gain future college and career ready success.
