Principal's message:

Happy Friday Coyotes!

Welcome back upperclassmen, and welcome to all our new Coyotes who are joining us as freshmen, or who have moved or transferred in to BPHS this year! We are so excited to have you all in the PACK. What a nice first week of school it's been. Starting off with our new 1st Day Experience, the week kicked off in a unique way, with students getting to engage with all BPHS teachers in activities centered around the ARTS, ACADEMICS (Programs), and ATHLETICS/ACTIVITIES. We had our 1st Day Assembly, great job ASB, with Link Crew doing their 9th grade activities all day in the gym. I know it was hot outside, but overall, it allowed us to ease back into the swing of school, and made for a smooth transition to classes on day 2. Next year we'll definitely have more activities indoors, more food trucks, possibly more water related events, and some new surprises. Thanks BP for starting the year off on such a positive note!

Looks like ASB had a great time at camp this summer...check out their highlight video from camp. Senior sunrise was a great time as well. How fun for the seniors as they kicked off their senior year!

Parents, here's a couple reminders to help continue the smooth start to the school year. Please work with your students on appropriate dress for school. For the most part it's been good, but we have had to dress code some students, and we do expect all students to adhere to the policies. In addition, below is the drop off procedures to aid in traffic flow during pick up and drop off.

Lastly, it was fun to welcome my son as part of the PACK this year, as he started his freshman year, and see my daughter off to Junior High as she started her 7th grade year at Rancho Starbuck. I look forward to what exciting challenges the new school year brings for them.

Not to be forgotten, check out how much Nala has grown over summer! Have a wonderful weekend Coyotes!

Agriscience

Buena Park FFA shines bright in Washington DC! Two of our dedicated officers had the incredible opportunity to attend the Washington Leadership Conference this past June. They forged lasting friendships with fellow FFA members from every corner of the United States and delved deep into the essence of service by creating Living to Serve Plans. Way to Emily and Julissa!

The Buena Park Agriculture Department had a great year at the Orange County Fair! We had a total of 23 students compete against schools throughout Orange County. 6 pigs, 10 sheep, 1 goat, 6 turkeys, 8 broiler chickens, and 3 rabbits. All our students did a fantastic job raising their animals and working hard to showcase their summer livestock projects! Some notable achievements include First Place Novice Sheep Showman (Anthony Alvarez), Champion Market Turkey (Scarlett Sanchez), and Grand Champion Market Broilers (Carlos Cardenas). Way to go, coyotes!

Emily Talavera was selected to serve as a National FFA Convention Delegate! After a very competitive application process, only 28 students were selected to represent California FFA this year!

We’re so proud of you Emily! Way to represent Buena Park and California! Have fun in Indianapolis in October!

Athletics

Boys Water Polo

Boys Water Polo are off to a strong start with 2 wins this week defeating Cypress 9-8 and West Covina 13-3. These boys are now 2-0 with 3 games coming up next week

Also thank you staff and teachers for allowing these students to take pictures with you. Here are a few of the collages that were submitted.

Volleyball

The girls are off to a good start, taking sets in each of their first matches. They have played each team to single digit losses and have shown a lot of growth from last year. We're excited to see how the team progresses over the season!

Coyote Corner
"Support is just around the corner"

Buena Park High School values all student’s social-emotional health, and we have developed a center that houses resources to support students throughout the day. Students who need a safe place to cope with anxiety, stress or need someone to talk to can visit our COYOTE CORNER (Room 27) at the front of the school. The Corner is open before and after school, during lunch and breaks, by appointment with a therapist, or with a pass from a teacher or administrator. Please stop in and visit and know that "Support is just around the CORNER."

I have attached two documents one is a teacher's first-week wellness tips and the other is a document on presentations and ways I can additionally support you all in and out of the classroom (presentation topics, group counseling, individual, crisis management). Students...do you know your SLOs

Student Learning Outcomes

The purpose of SLOs are to increased student awareness of their own learning

Explicitly-stated learning goals give students a way to think and talk about what they have learned. They make it easier for students to “know what they know” and give students a language to communicate what they know to others. Such awareness is considered central to learning that lasts.
Have a Great Week Coyotes!
It's a Great Time to be a Coyote!
We boast an amazingly diverse student body that enriches the campus on a daily basis. Our focus on success means we hold all students to high expectations, and provide a supportive environment in order to help them reach their dreams. The work will be hard, but we provide the means for all students to be connected to high school and gain future college and career ready success.
