Week 2 - Fall Semester 2022/22

Principal's message: (click here for welcome back message)

Another great week at The Park! Students are settling into their routines. They're in-class/on-time, and learning how to #Unplug to Connect. Campus is able to be cleared each period due to all students in class the first and last 10 minutes of every class. Our teachers have begun to implement the schoolwide strategy of Focused Note-taking, and our programs are in full swing.

Coyote Club Rush was today during lunch! It was great to see all our clubs out there increasing student involvement. The quad was full of Coyotes, eager to find new connections to BPHS. Thank you ASB for coordinating this annual event.

Remember: New Traffic Pattern for Student Dismissal

Our new traffic pattern seems to be working! Thank you all for your patience as we try this new pattern for traffic. We will continue to monitor this next week with hopes to implement a similar flow in the morning as well. Continue to utilize the student parking lot for both drop off and pick up as we try to move more cars off the street and through a more fluid pattern. Cars should not drive down the front staff parking area, nor wait in the cul-de-sac for pickup. The designated pick-up for students is in the parking lot, unless you have arranged with your students for another location.

I have to give a big shout out to our Boy's Soccer team who's spirit over the past week (I am convinced) help push our teams over the top! You constantly hear about the "12th-man" award in football, or the "6th-man" award in basketball...well, they get the Coyote Support Award for their showing at Football, Water polo, and Volleyball!  Each time they showed up, they brought with them the extra positive energy that helped push our teams to victory! #SupportThePack

Way to go Boys Soccer!

It's been a great week for our sports teams, with water polo and volleyball each winning two games, FB picking up a win in their first game of the season, and Tennis taking it to our neighbor to the west, Kennedy HS.

Hope to see you at tonight's Football game supporting the PACK!

Have a great weekend Coyotes!

Coyote Academy of Visual and Performing Arts

(CAVPA)

The Coyote Corps has had a strong start to our 2022 season, which included a 2-week Band Camp before school started and a very successful performance at the first home football game last week!

The corps is making fast progress on our 2022 Competition Show entitled Where Mythical Beings Play, which includes a custom show design and musical arrangements (for the first time in 10 years)! We will premiere a section of the first movement with drill this Friday at the home game vs. Savanna. Mr. Shetland is very proud of the students for all their hard work, professionalism, and willingness to take the next steps in moving forward with a demanding show, which will make its first appearance in competition on Saturday, October 15th at Valencia High School in Placentia.

Way to go Coyote Corps!

Seniors planning to apply to private colleges or out of state schools, please check the requirements to apply to the colleges you are interested in to find out if the SAT or ACT is required. Cal State Universities and University of California colleges do not use SAT or ACT scores in the admissions process but other schools may consider or require scores. Now is the time to register for those tests if you need scores. Registration is done online.

PSAT is coming October 12th for 10th and 11th grade students. PSAT scores are used for some scholarship programs and will give you a good idea of your SAT scores. All 10th and 11th graders planning to go to 4 year colleges are encouraged to take the PSAT.

Coyote Corner
"Support is just around the corner"
Buena Park High School values all student’s social-emotional health, and we have developed a center that houses resources to support students throughout the day. Students who need a safe place to cope with anxiety, stress or need someone to talk to can visit our COYOTE CORNER (Room 27) at the front of the school. The Corner is open before and after school, during lunch and breaks, by appointment with a therapist, or with a pass from a teacher or administrator. Please stop in and visit and know that "Support is just around the CORNER."

Students...do you know your SLOs
Student Learning Outcomes
The purpose of SLOs are to increased student awareness of their own learning

Explicitly-stated learning goals give students a way to think and talk about what they have learned. They make it easier for students to “know what they know” and give students a language to communicate what they know to others. Such awareness is considered central to learning that lasts.
Have a Great Week Coyotes!
