Experience Innovation in Education

Week 2 - Spring Semester 2023/24

Principal's message:

Happy Friday Coyotes! It was a short, quick week, but very busy here at The Park. Although it is a little more than halfway through the school year, we are already getting ready for next year. Coyote 301 was held yesterday, with the theme of connecting to school, and planning for next year. Our counselors joined administration and went through graduation requirements, A-G courses, new courses to the school for next year, including the new Early College courses, and went through the options of classes available to students as they enter the next grade level. I got the opportunity to work with the 9th graders, promoting expanding their bubble and being "in-the-know" about all things BP.

We are excited to showcase everything BP has to offer this coming Thursday evening. Whether you are a current student/family, or an incoming prospective student/family, please join us for The Buena Park Experience. Please share with your friends so they can also learn of the new programs and opportunities that exist here at BPHS.

Club Refresh was today during long lunch. Great way to be connected and see new opportunities to be involved. Check out the ASB Forum below for some pics from Club Refresh

Before their spring semester college classes begin, our Early College Academy students took the opportunity today to visit UC Riverside and Cal Poly Pomona. Great college visits!

Lastly, I had the opportunity to present some great data and opportunities to the BPSD families this past Wednesday in our PAC. Big thanks to BPJrH Principal Mr. Beckelheimer and Beatty Middle School Principal Dr. Valdez for the collaboration and support.

Have a great three day weekend Coyotes!

Coyotes of Character

R.I.S.E. Up Spotlight of the Week

Service Before Self

It's the little things we do that can make a positive impact on others. We don't do good things to be recognized, but people recognize when we do good things.

Great job Coyotes of Character!

Paulina Cortez

We have a stock pile of boots on the farm for students to borrow while they’re working with livestock. A very excited and highly involved student found that we didn’t have any boots in his size. He never complained but his shoes started to get ruined. Ms. Cortez noticed this and purchased a pair of rubber boots for him. His very own pair! She even wrote his name on them and wrapped up! Such a generous gift for a deserving student.

Raymond Rodarte

Raymond is always incredibly kind to all teachers and students and goes out of his way to compliment and encourage others.

Danny Washington

Danny was nominated twice this week, once by Mr. Bench, and another by Ms. Whitaker.

Danny is a Dual Enrollment student who is in Link Crew and was Captain of the Football team. He is also on the varsity basketball team. On Wednesday he had an off night from basketball and he spent it sitting on the bench for wrestling. Danny cheered on every single wrestler before, during and after each match. It was a great example of leadership and school spirit to root on all of his friends and fellow athletes. This week he also found an Apple Watch in the teacher's parking lot and turned it into the front office.

The Misadventures of Fernandean

Our dynamic due sprang to action earlier this week as the alarm bells sounded in their bat cave...I mean classes. An emergency at the farm! When they arrived, the animals were everywhere. Pigs gallivanting from one pen to another, steer spelling out "eat mor chikin" in the mud, the chickens planning their escape across Magnolia, and cats and dogs living together... oh wait, we don't have cats and dogs at our farm...must have been a Ghostbuster moment. Anyway, in the end, it turned out the animals were simply auditioning for a new Chick Fil e/Kentucky Fried Chicken co-sponsored series of commercials. All heck broke loose when the chickens were finally let in on the secret that both chains served their relatives in high quantities. Not even Col Sanders, with his "wee beady eyes! And that smug look on his face" could convince the chickens that the commercials were not a ploy to get them to sign over their next of kin. "Oh, you're gonna buy my chicken," exclaimed Col. Sanders. Now we all know that "he puts an addictive chemical in his chicken that makes ya crave it fortnightly!" But our dynamic duo, with their strong vegetarian tendencies and cat like speed and reflexes, were able to not only resist the Colonels demands, his intoxicating aroma, and delicious chicken and sides, but battled to the death in an extreme Roshambo competition, sending him down below, where the goblins go, yo ho, yo ho.

But now started the heavy lifting...pun intended. Not only were the steer hungry, but the pigs were still lose, and the chickens were nowhere to be seen. So they first fed the steer, just to get those heffers from running their yappers. Then, while Fernando corralled the pigs back into their pens, Dean spotted the chickens on the other side of Magnolia! They had obviously crossed the road, safely I might add, but were now trapped in a Land called Fullerton. No one knows exactly why the chickens crossed the road, it was probably just to get to the other side. But they found themselves in this strange city, and although seemingly well put together, they were not offered any room in the nearby inn. Also feeling neglected from their absence in the manger scene, they decided to try and cross back into safer BP territory. Dean got there just in time to help the chickens across the busy street. A game of Frogger ensued with Dean jumping forward and backward, dodging cars, trucks, logs, alligators, and anything else coming down the lanes of the road. He expertly helped the chickens cross the road, back to the farm, where Fernando and Dean rejoiced that the prodigal chickens returned.

Stay tuned for future adventures of Fernandean...

Weekly Wellness Reminder

Happy New Year Coyotes!

As we step into a new year, it's natural to feel a mix of excitement and perhaps a bit of anxiety about what lies ahead. The beginning of a new year often comes with a sense of anticipation, goal-setting, and resolutions.

I want to take a moment to acknowledge any feelings of apprehension or stress that the new year might bring. Change, even when positive, can be challenging, and it's okay to experience a range of emotions as we navigate through this transition.

Remember that setting realistic and achievable goals is a great way to channel your energy and enthusiasm. Whether it's professional, health and wellness, or personal enrichment, setting small, attainable milestones can make a significant difference. It's not about making drastic changes overnight but rather about creating sustainable habits that contribute to your overall well-being. Please remember to always take care of yourself and thrive! If wellness is part of your plan I have attached a clickable link to CHOC's resources for healthy mental wellness.

I hope this email finds you well. As we approach the final stretch of the semester, I wanted to bring attention to the crucial aspect of self-care for our students, especially during the demanding period of finals.

The pressures associated with exams and deadlines can often lead to heightened stress levels among students. It is important for us, as educators, to emphasize the significance of self-care practices in supporting their overall well-being. When students prioritize self-care, they are better equipped to manage stress, enhance focus, and maintain a healthy balance between academic and personal responsibilities. I have included a fun activity that you can post in your Google Classroom or as a handout to practice some wellness activities. As always I am available for any students that may need additional support. Thank you!

We want YOU to be part of our BPHS PTSA! Be in the know of everything BPHS...Help plan some special functions like Grad Nite...Students who are members of PTSA qualify for special scholarships in the spring of their senior year!
It's a great way to be involved!
Students...do you know your SLOs

Student Learning Outcomes

The purpose of SLOs are to increased student awareness of their own learning

Explicitly-stated learning goals give students a way to think and talk about what they have learned. They make it easier for students to “know what they know” and give students a language to communicate what they know to others. Such awareness is considered central to learning that lasts.
Have a Great Week Coyotes!
It's a Great Time to be a Coyote!
We boast an amazingly diverse student body that enriches the campus on a daily basis. Our focus on success means we hold all students to high expectations, and provide a supportive environment in order to help them reach their dreams. The work will be hard, but we provide the means for all students to be connected to high school and gain future college and career ready success.
