Week 7 - Fall Semester 2022/22

Principal's message:

Happy Friday Coyotes! Looks like a little cooler weather this weekend as we change over into October! Good luck to our Football team who take on Sonora HS tonight at LHHS. There's some great highlights below for both water polo and cross country, who both had big weekends in their respective tournaments and invitationals.  This weekend is Buena Park Goes To College...so go check that out tomorrow at the community center (see flyer below). There's also some new flyers in the Counselor's Corner and information for our upcoming Homecoming Dance.  Thanks to all our club, sport, and organization senators who participated in our first Student Senate meeting of the year during lunch today.  I appreciate the candid responses and ideas to further make BPHS a great place for students!

Here's our pic of the week, courtesy of BP Yearbook.  They were out at the girls golf match; our team is young and playing well this season.

Great shots (no pun intended) from yearbook who continue to impress.

I hope you all have a great weekend! Go Coyotes!

Congratulations Boys water polo who increased their division leading record to 14-3, with three more wins in the Claremont Tournament this past weekend.  They took 2nd place and looked very good throughout the weekend. Great job boys!

Girls Tennis

Girls tennis had a good week of league matches. Singles player Nina Lee had a win against Fullerton. Hailee Uy had a strong game as well, taking 4 games away from her Fullerton opponent. Double team Stephanie and Saloni had a strong match, taking multiple games to deuce and gaining 3 game wins of their own. They will take on La Habra and Troy next week. Great work, ladies!

Girls Cross Country

Another strong showing for our Coyote runners at the Wayne Walker Invitational! Tons of medals, some PRs, and our girls won the whole thing!

Seniors planning to apply to private colleges or out of state schools, please check the requirements to apply to the colleges you are interested in to find out if the SAT or ACT is required. Cal State Universities and University of California colleges do not use SAT or ACT scores in the admissions process but other schools may consider or require scores. Now is the time to register for those tests if you need scores. Registration is done online.

PSAT is coming October 12th for 10th and 11th grade students. PSAT scores are used for some scholarship programs and will give you a good idea of your SAT scores. All 10th and 11th graders planning to go to 4 year colleges are encouraged to take the PSAT.

Coyote Corner
"Support is just around the corner"
Buena Park High School values all student’s social-emotional health, and we have developed a center that houses resources to support students throughout the day. Students who need a safe place to cope with anxiety, stress or need someone to talk to can visit our COYOTE CORNER (Room 27) at the front of the school. The Corner is open before and after school, during lunch and breaks, by appointment with a therapist, or with a pass from a teacher or administrator. Please stop in and visit and know that "Support is just around the CORNER."

Students...do you know your SLOs
Student Learning Outcomes
The purpose of SLOs are to increased student awareness of their own learning

Explicitly-stated learning goals give students a way to think and talk about what they have learned. They make it easier for students to “know what they know” and give students a language to communicate what they know to others. Such awareness is considered central to learning that lasts.
Have a Great Week Coyotes!
It's a Great Time to be a Coyote!
