COLLEGE & CAREER SPECIALIST
Three important updates:

Update #1. We did not get
this notice in time to share last year, but here's a note from our previous counselor Linda:

"After two wonderful years at The Center School, I am sad to share that I've been notified that I am laid off due to union seniority rules. Another SPS s taff person will join The Center School next fall to continue working on college and career. I am proud of my hard work and will miss this incredible community, especially our inspiring and talented students. It's been a honor to work for this amazing community!"

Interviews for the new College & Career Specialist are scheduled, and Dr. Casey is looking for parents to join the hiring committee. Please contact her if you would like to be involved.

Update #2.  Meanwhile, a group of Seniors have stepped up to help and have already organized:
  • "Senior resource packets handed out during 5th period on 9/6. All seniors should have one! If not, they are available in the Commons.
  • Senior Brag Sheets handed out 9/10 during 3rd period. Due ASAP, preferably in the next 2 weeks.
  • College & Career board updated with deadlines and the opportunity for juniors to get SAT prep help through Khan Academy.
  • College interest forms filled out in Greenberg's class on 9/10.
  • Reached out to teachers and staff for advice and resources.
  • Helping to organize FAFSA night. 93% of seniors who responded to the survey are interested.
  • Handouts and resources are being made available.
  • Created an Instagram account for students (& parents!) to follow for updates and reference.

Thank you all so much for your support and your hard work to find us a new counselor! We are here to help anyone with anything, and we look forward to getting all our seniors on the path to graduation and whatever comes next."

Info available in the Commons

Update #3. A Financial Aid Night for families looking to learn more about FAFSA/WASFA is scheduled for 10/3. More information is to come, but if you're interested, save this date!
WE CAN USE YOUR HELP!

Volunteers needed to help replace broken chairs. We'll supply tools and pieces. Likely will be scheduled for a Sunday in September. Please let Molly Goldman know if you can help.

We are still looking to fill a few open positions. Please let us know if you're interested or want more information:

Junior parent to chair Senior Event committee
This is a great way to front load your volunteerism so you don't feel bad next year and can just focus on your senior! :)

Treasurer
We have a great treasurer but are looking to spread the load with a co-treasurer.

Race and Equity Committee Chair

V o lunteers who know how to bevel-cut window mats (or who could be trained and would be willing to help out s needed). We already have mat cutters and the other necessary tools, just need the hands!
