Meet our new Visitor Services
Park Ranger:
Chris Quezada!
How did you come to work at Laguna Atascosa NWR?
I have spent most of my life in the valley, and have tried to discover every hidden gem of the landscape. I graduated from South Texas College in Computer Science, but I took on a year-long position at Santa Ana NWR to try something different before returning to I.T. During my first year at Santa Ana, I fell in love with the refuge system, and continued to work there as a Visitor Services Park Ranger. I am always looking for new ways to involve our community in conservation and recreation, and this was a major reason why I applied for the Laguna Atascosa position.
What are some of your plans for the Refuge?
I love being out on the water and I would like to bring kayaking and canoeing back to the refuge. Being that I come from Santa Ana, I would also like to take advantage of our ties to the South Texas Refuge Complex and collaborate on programs to reach greater audiences.
What’s your life like outside of your refuge work?
I have a wonderful wife and three children who are the center of my world. Together my family and I are on a quest to see public lands across the country, from kayaking the Rio Grande to hiking a section of the Appalachian trail.
