After a successful year of growing youth leaders through the launch of the GreenHive Leadership Program, bringing landscapers into the green job revolution with the Growers Program, and ensuring all DeKalb County residents have a Productive Urban Landscape at their library through the passage of the Fruitful Libraries Resolution- there is much to celebrate!

Project GRANDD - Empowering Families with Digital Tools and Training | |
On November 12th, the DeKalb Office of Partnerships & External Affairs and DeKalb Office of Youth Services partnered with lnspirEdu to provide the first series of computer and technology education classes to DeKalb citizens.
The program, Project GRANDD helps grandparents who are raising their grandchildren learn basic computer skills. Additionally, each family will receive a year of technical support, a laptop for their use, and guidance in obtaining internet access through the federal government's Affordable Connectivity Program for qualified participants.

Saturday, December 17th | 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
This event is open to anyone wanting to donate new, unwrapped toys to deserving children and will take place in the parking lots of two locations:
- Northlake Mall (4800 Briarcliff Rd. NE, Atlanta, GA 30345)
- Gallery at South DeKalb Mall (2801 Candler Rd, Decatur, GA 30034)
Toys for boys and girls ages 10-12 are highly needed, although toys for children of all ages are welcome. Click here for a list of suggested items.

DeKalb Atlanta Senior Center recognized Breast Cancer Awareness Month by collecting donations for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and hosting a small ceremony with a balloon release. | North DeKalb Senior Center and East DeKalb/Lithonia Senior Center honored their veterans members who shared amazing stories of experiences with family and friends that have and are currently serving in a military service. | District 4 Commissioner Steve Bradshaw paid a visit to East DeKalb/Lithonia Senior Center to join in on the celebration. He states in his latest newsletter, "On November 10th it was great to join my friends at the East DeKalb Senior Center at Bruce Street for their salute to Veterans. Once again it was a wonderful program. I would like to thank Mistress of Ceremonies Rebecca Evans, and Site Council Vice President Karim Murad [pictured above] for putting on a wonderful program and for the invitation to participate." | |
District 3 Commissioner Larry Johnson, in partnership with Councilman Michael Julian Bond, hosted a healthy food giveaway with meal kits provided by Hello Fresh at DeKalb Atlanta Senior Center. DeKalb Human services staff, City of Atlanta Fire recruits, and DeKalb County and City of Atlanta Police were onsite to manage traffic and distribute the free meal kits. | |
Each September we celebrate senior centers by showcasing how they promote a positive image of aging. This year, our seniors dressed in their best at All White Attire parties, participated in drama performances and festive activities, informed others on the effects of COVID-19, and celebrated themselves and others. | |
Application Deadline Approaching for the Tenant-Landlord Assistance Program | |
DeKalb County has announced that tenants and landlords have until Monday, Nov. 21st, 2022, at 5 p.m. to submit new applications for financial help through the DeKalb Tenant-Landlord Assistance Coalition (TLAC) based on federal deadlines.

Advance Voting Locations, Hours for Dec. 6th General Election Runoff | |
DeKalb County Voter Registration and Elections (DeKalb VRE) announced an additional day of advance voting for the December 6th General Election Runoff following an order by Fulton County Superior Court. The order clears the way for counties to offer voting on the Saturday after Thanksgiving.
DeKalb County voters may now vote on Saturday, Nov. 26th, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. at one of the following locations:
- Dunwoody Library, 5339 Chamblee-Dunwoody Road, Dunwoody, GA 30338
- DeKalb VRE, 4380 Memorial Drive Suite 300, Decatur, GA 30032 (2 locations)
- Gallery at South DeKalb (South DeKalb Mall), 2845 Candler Road, Decatur, GA 30034
Voters may still cast their ballots in person at DeKalb VRE on Wednesday, Nov. 23rd, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Beginning Sunday, Nov. 27th through Friday, Dec. 2nd, all 17 advance voting locations will be open 7 a.m. – 7 p.m., as previously publicized.
In addition, DeKalb VRE encourages absentee voters to request their ballot right away, as the deadline is Nov. 28th. Ballots can be requested at www.DeKalbVotes.com.

In observance of Thanksgiving Day on Thursday, Nov. 24th, sanitation collection service for residential customers will be based on the following revised collection schedule:
Monday, Nov. 21st – Normal collection day.
Tuesday, Nov. 22nd – Normal collection day.
Wednesday, Nov. 23rd – Normal collection day.
Thursday, Nov. 24th – Thanksgiving Day observed; no collection service.
Friday, Nov. 25th – Residential customers whose regularly scheduled collection day is Thursday, Nov. 24th, will be serviced on Friday, Nov. 25th.
