a Big Shout Out to all our graduates!
I know this is not how you thought your senior year would unfold, but you have handled it well - and I think that bodes well for you as you make your way in this world. Congratulations, everyone!
We have begun to turn the corner
. Just this week our region of the state was cleared to start the reopening process. We are now in Phase 1, which allows manufacturing, construction and retail (limited to curbside or in-store pick-up or drop-off) activities to resume.
The success of the reopening process still depends heavily on all of us.
Our behavior – practicing social distancing and wearing a face covering while in public – will determine whether we continue to move forward through the reopening phases. I know many are growing weary of the constraints we have been living under, but I urge you to keep up your efforts.
There are a lot of moving parts to the reopening process and we must recognize that it will evolve and change as we continue to gain knowledge about this virus and experience in dealing with it. That is why it is so important that we are patient and continue to work together as a community.
We are actively looking at what we can do to bring residents together in a safe way. Our outdoor
farmer’s market has reopened
with new social distancing protocols. We are also
planning four drive-in movie opportunities
at different locations within the city during the month of June. Two of the movies will be sponsored by the Downtown Business Improvement District (BID) and two will be hosted by the Recreation & Parks Department. We are encouraging movie-goers to pick up some take-out from one of our restaurants and make the experience a Dine & Drive-In. We will be sharing additional details very soon!
I have been so encouraged by the overwhelming compliance with social distancing and face covering requirements that I have seen among our residents. A big THANK YOU for that and to those who have been volunteering at our weekly food distributions. Your efforts have helped make these distributions sustainable.
I look forward to seeing you around town, White Plains (in a socially distanced and safe manner, of course)!
