Musician Sean Gaskell will give a performance and an educational demonstration on the KORA, an ancient 21-stringed harp from West Africa. He will feature traditional songs that are the heart and soul of this unique instrument. The KORA is native to the Mande peoples who live within the countries of Gambia, Senegal, Mali, and Guinea.

The Lewis and Clark Expedition started on its journey to the Pacific Ocean on Mary 14, 1804. Lonis Wendt of Vivian will commemorate this moment in history by providing background about the Louisiana Purchase and making a PowerPoint presentation to show and describe some of the remarkable places along the Missouri River and west when traveling the Lewis and Clark Trail. The book "Undaunted Courage" by Stephen Ambrose is sold in the Heritage Store at the Cultural Heritage Center. Everyone is welcome to attend the free program.

Prairie Potters Master Gardeners will host their annual plant sale. Annuals, perennials, and garden plants will be available. Master Gardeners will be available to help select plants for your flower beds, and also to answer gardening questions you may have. This class provides important childbirth information. All expectant moms are welcome to attend this class with their family support person. Topics covered include: Warning signs and progression of Labor, relaxation techniques, comfort and pain management, newborn care Practices of Avera St. Mary's Women's Center Childbirth Class is a 1-session class held on one Saturday each quarter at Avera St. Mary's Hospital Cafeteria Conference Room from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. the cost is $40.00 Pre-registration is required and scholarships are available to assist with the registration fee. Delta Dental's mobile dental truck is coming to Fort Pierre on May 20-24, 2019

Oahe Valley Health Center is  hosting the truck to care for children who can't afford or access a dentist because of cost, lack of insurance, transportation, or other reasons. Registration is needed, and patient consent and information must be completed. Contact Mary at 605-223-2200 for more information or to schedule an appointment.


 

A full range of dental care is available, including exams, cleanings, preventative treatments, and cavity fillings. Services are provided at no cost to the child or family. No insurance is necessary.

Oral health education is also provided to patients so they can continue to care for their teeth after the visit. Children from their 1st tooth through age 21 are eligible if they have not seen an area dentist in two years or live more than 85 miles from the nearest dentist. The mobile dental truck's visit is a partnership between Rural Heath Care, Inc. and Delta Dental of South Dakota. The Dental Mobile Program provides oral health services to undeserved children. The program includes two mobile dental trucks that travel across the state. The trucks have been in 81 communities throughout South Dakota and provided more than $17 million in dental care since the program began in 2004.

Please join us at Edgewood Pierre for "Effective Communication Strategies with Alzheimer's and Dementia" Lunch and Learn event of Friday, May 24th from 12-1 pm. There is no cost to attend, and complimentary lunch will be provided. Event speaker will be Kathi Herreid with the South Dakota Alzheimer's Association. The Effective Communication Strategies program was designed to provide practical information and resources to hep dementia caregivers learn to decode verbal and behavioral messages from people with dementia. The goals of the program are for participants to better understand the changes in communication that occur with disease progression and how they manifest in the person with dementia and to be able to identify ways to connect at each stage of the disease. 7th Annual Wishard Memorial Tournament

Josh Wishard wanted to run a tournament to bring about awareness to drunk driving and how it can affect people. He decided to host a tournament to honor his brother, Cameron, who passed away from such instant. He always wanted to sanction it. A week after he hosted the Second Annual Wishard Memorial, Josh Wishard passed away. The SharpeShooters Disc Golf Club wants to honor his wish to host and sanction this event.

PDGA C Tier Tournament - 2 rounds of 20 holes played. Players Pack for the first 50 players registered and be eligible for random draw prizes for registering online. Current State Park or day-pass sticker required. 
$5 Ace Pool CTP if no one gets an ace during the rounds. $5 lunch provided by the Wishard Family

The SharpeShooters DGC would also like to help promote disc golf and bring in more players by offering an assistance program this year. If you need financial assistance for travel/registration, please send us a message to the tournament directors through Facebook or the phone numbers provided. We will provide the information to apply for this program. The application will then be submitted for approval by our board.
