Dr. Marilyn Carlson Aronson *A River Runs Through It: The Missouri River Is an Enigma and Quite a Story Dr. Aronson discusses how modern technology has tried to tame the mighty Missouri River and harness its energy to meet the growing needs of the people in the Missouri River Basin, exploring the building of the six giant dams on the Missouri River and which groups benefited most and least from the flood control projects. Aronson believes that the Missouri River eludes efforts of modern technology to tame it fully, and it continues to provide water of uncertain quantity and quality. 

Join us for the Sixth Annual Kiwanis/Delta Dental Four-Person Golf Scramble @ Hillsview Golf Course on Friday, July 12! Kiwanis annually donates over $20,000 to youth-based activities and programs in the Pierre and Fort Pierre communities - this fundraiser helps us be able to do that. Four-Person Teams cost $300, Hole Sponsorship are available for $100, or Sponsor a hole and a team for $350! This class provides important childbirth information. All expectant moms are welcome to attend this class with their family support person. Topics covered include: Warning signs and progression of labor, relaxation techniques, comfort and pain management, newborn care Practices of Avera St. Mary's Women's Center Childbirth Class is a 1-session class held on one Saturday each quarter at Avera St. Mary's Hospital Cafeteria Conference Room from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. For grades 3-5: Investigate how simple machines make our lives easier. Discover mechanical principles and engineering design by using gears, belts, and axles to solve real-world tasks. We are using hands-on Lego Education kits to spark creativity and develop critical thinking skills while building and exploring simple machine mechanisms, such as catapults, merry go rounds, and cranes.

All moms and their supporters are welcome to attend this class to learn the basics of breastfeeding that will assist mom and baby to become successful at breastfeeding. Topics include: benefits of breastfeeding, common problems, collect and storing milk and return to work or school. Pre-registration is required. Scholarships are available. Women's State Softball Tournament (Divisions 2-3-4-5)

Oahe Downstream Recreation Area is hosting their 5th Annual Butterfly Festival July 20 at 9 AM. Activities include a Pollinator Parade at 10:30 AM (kids bring your costumes and adults bring your camera), a garden tour at 11:30 AM, honey tasting, DIY native bee house and pollinator ball, examining flower parts and learning about butterflies. Kids can color their souvenir flying disk, make antennae, run the migration maze, make butterfly treats you can eat. *Kids, if you don't have wings, come at 9 AM and we will help you create your own wings
